  1. I work in a library, you'd be amazed how many people can't get that distinction...
  2. If you want to close a thread, just have me post on it - seems to end 'em most of the time!
  3. I thought 2 Jews Blues was Barry Goldberg & Bloomfield (uncredited), no?
  4. I didn't see the truly awful Busch bargain brand on the list, must be those charming adds with the stripper silhouette that read "Grab a Busch" - nothing like subtlety!
  5. an Art of the Automobile (or some such name) thingy at the Portlabd Art Museum, nice enuff to go twice, no Studebakers but almost - a Pierce Arrow built at South Bend. Talbot-Lago, baby! Couldn't drive a 7 figure car on the street though, I'd be a nervous wreck...
  6. Article linked above says he played the Opry exactly once! Guess this 'too country for country' thing ain't nothing new....or was he too modern in the '30s?
  7. This is definately one of those cases where I gotta say "I had no idea he was still alive"!
  8. Tried to listen to some of this, had to quit and find a nice clip of Cream in a club in '66 to clear my head....
  9. I once saw the Motreal Candaniens score three times in wel under a minute, back in the 6 team era - apples and oranges I know, but still... and nothing is as inept as my beloved Roughies losing the Grey Cup for having too many men on the field! I'm just dyslexic enuff that I initially read this as "How many damn notes are there?"
  10. Listened to Wonderful again last night, was digging it OK til I just kinda got bogged down in it 'bout half way through. Put on Bobby Broom's Modern Man (on Delmark) with Idres, Lonnie Smith and Ronnie Cuber and their version of "superstion" totally did it for me, as did hearing them do Layla with Cuber playing the familiar guitar lick, YMMV, etc.
  11. Me three, kinda/sorta - got it & liked it ok but I think I'd rather hear Bobby b play Layla...
  12. Yeah, it was OK...but Willie and the Wheel rocked my boat harder. Eric's done shit that totally rocked my boat (mostly but not entirely a long time ago)and a lot that's totally snoozeling, so I'm not expecting much here. Yeah, they play Layla to death on the radio, but I'll still take it over Free Bird or Stairway any day.
  13. What sucks is people who think 'x sucks' is any way to start a conversation 'bout anything...
  14. Thanks for the link, nice interviews with BB King and Lovano re Lester.
  15. The Jack Johnson box of the raw takes of "Go Ahead John" but not the originally issued edit, to get that you need some version of Big Fun - my recomendation would be the dbl CD of Big Fun with bonus tracks plus the dbl CD of Bitches with bonus tracks, skip the Bitches box but get the boxes for IASW & Jack Johnson and all the rest. Sometimes Teo hit a homer (IASW) and sometimes he struck out (Live/Evil), IMHO. I try not to have any preconceptions 'bout how it should be done, just listen to how it works...
  16. Naima fit nicely, IMHO
  17. Honky Tonk Train was a big favorite of my late father's - he used to argue that the reason the more efficient European-style compound steam engines never caught on in america was simply that they didn't sound right, i.e. 'right' = like Honky Tonk train, etc.
  18. You may be pleased to note that the library system I work for currently has 9 holds on 3 copies, 10 as soon as I put it on hold.
  19. I'm particularly fascinated by the alternate take of "Blind Man", not just because I don't have it (box only?) and think it's superior to the master, but because of the large difference that one extra note in the bass makes....
  20. Can't believe I called this a quintet album when I posted back in the day, what was I on? esp'ly when i generally prefer sextets to quintets...
  21. thanx muchly for your encouragement...
  22. surgery was June 6th, now recovery. Most difficult thing is not overdoing it, for instance by picking up heavy grocery bag like I did last night...
  23. It's not quite true that you used to be able to get away with anything in the final, M. Richard got tossed for the remainder in the 50's... The question now is, who do the Canucks put in goal?
  24. After we moved to Sask, the Riders of course. And surprisingly, the Montreal Canadiens - who were widely hated in the praries - but got right away that this was a team that played as a team, and during the 6 team NHL era at least, had the most lopsided home/away record in sports. At that time they had also won > half the Stanley cups... But my real passion as a child, going back before the move up north, was Ferrari - both the Grand Prix and long distance teams with Chris Ammon and Niki Lauda probably my favorite drivers. Had an air mail subscription to Motor Sport to stay current - although back then Road & Track covered racing much more than they do now.
