What's weird (to me) is Mott the Hoople doing this tune...but in a good way.

Certainly love many of his recordings, and yeah him for getting to 90 still going strong...but last time I saw him I didn't even stay til the end. But then it was at my alma mater which I have a bit of a love/hate thing with and what I remember tells me it was the band not him.

Had a bunch of DMMs, they were all fine except Jackie McLean's Tippin' In which had horribly distorted piano - so I replaced it with a CD.

I played the CD reissue of this fine recording the other day and was reminded of how good it is - blowing and writing. And the bonus session is just as good, IMHO, YMMV, etc. Me and T the K might even agree on this. Thoughts?

I know I've asked this before, but has anyone here heard the album of public domain (spirituals, folk songs, etc.) Ben made for a European grocery chain? It's mentioned as bding quite nice in one of the bios...and I've been intrigued ever since.

As for his fondness for extreme altissimo playing, well maybe just because he can. I don't see much enuff similarity between him and Sanborn to make a sub-genre. What he plays at the start of SNL fits that context. Some local playing that at a jam, maybe not so much. But ultimately, I still think TtheK is making a thing out of no-thing.

If you're talking about Lenny Pickett https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenny_Pickett, then I don't know what your problem with his sound is but you should quit posturing with your head up your ass, you'll hurt yourself. And if you're not talking about Mr Pickett, WTF are you talking about? It's not even that I like his playing all that much, but he's a professional player who no doubt has any number of reasons for sounding the way he does, and you're being a troll.

Wonderful BASS player, IMHO; his presence on a record is enuff in itself to make me at least think about buying it.
