  1. Why don't you just order from Downtown Music Gallery. They have most of the fontanas "reissues" available.
  2. They're cdr boots. They have been selling those kinds of "reissues" for years.
  3. I agree. Carter/Bradford certainly have their followers, but Horace Tapscott music is sought after, internationally.
  4. I'd like to hear the entire Daley set as well
  5. Got the Dunmall box yesterday; wow, what a package! A hefty book and a thick stack of discs in a binder, all wrapped in a fold open box with slipcase. Will dive into it soon and give some feedback.
  6. Listening and LOVING the first disc of this set.
  7. They break them up on batches. I received five discs yesterday; will get more when I arrive home tonight.
  8. Any track from this fine album: Also, Donald Byrd's "The Little Rasti" from Ethiopian Knights
  9. Got it, listened to the first disc and now understand what the fuss is all about. Abercrombie unchained!
  10. What kind of payoff? The kind where the jazz audience stand up and cheer; where critics proclaim instant classic? Does risk taking necessarily mean that one has to fail first? One of the reasons why I like this quartet so much is that collectively they are more interesting and dynamic than as individuals. In some ways Wayne has the leader role that Miles once had, but on his own terms.
  11. In August, unless Congress intervenes. The airmail shipping charges just went up 40%, if one uses USPS. Ordered the Dunmall as well.
  12. They outsold 99% of the music I listen to now, for sure.
  13. Bought this as well. A beautiful album!
  14. Well, placed an order. My wallet wishes they had this sale once a year, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.........
  15. A very narrow and specific genre.
  16. Wayne's an artist. Pure and simple. If musicians spent their time managing our expectations of them there would be even more crappier music today than there are already.
  17. $26 on amazon, through resellers. Good enough for me, and I don't mind waiting......
  18. Also, this group is from London, Canada, not England. Which makes it all the more interesting, as I don't hear much of a jazz scene up north.
  19. Received this from da bastids: Part of the "Deep Jazz Reality" series from Japan, this is a 65+ minute cd jam packed full of funky beats, wild improv, and hard driving jazz. There are some great vibes work a la 70's Walt Dickerson, heck, even like early Embryo with Mal Waldron (for those who heard my last Blindfold test would know what I mean). This is a jewel of an album enchanced with a 25+ minute track from an unissued session. :tup :tup :tup
  20. Welcome to the new world of boutique reissue releases. Yowza!
  21. Does not contain music of the Ray Charles Singers, whose extensive catalogue can be found in dollar bins at used records stores (the few that remain).
  22. I'll always remember listening to Shorter's group back in 2002 or 2003, at the Kennedy Center. There were a lot of folks who came expecting to hear him play like he did in the 60's or even the 70's, and of course, got something completely different. Many were pissed and left before the second performance. Just read the NYT article, and I do have issues with some things the author says, in particular about improvised music. But emperor has no clothes? Not in the least. I find it great that he is still reading the latest sci fi fiction, and he's even checking out what the current music scene is, abhorrent it might be to most of us. I'll pick up this cd ASAP.
  23. Up, new items added for February.
  24. Check out audiogon.com
  25. Surpirsingly, I might hold off buying this one. I love this period, however, there's too much other stuff demanding my attention, and I hate listening to cds that have many multiple takes of the same tune. Yes, it's Coltrane, and he did each one differently, but I'll wait.
