  1. I like Ginger Baker, but I would definitely have to agree. How Mitchell hardly ever recorded again after Hendrix' passing has always been a mystery, and a real shame.
  2. I just noticed that the Wikipedia entry for Mitch Mitchell (here, the end of the section/paragraph entitled "Notable projects"), says: Really? That would either be news to me, or is one of several hundred things I once knew (but have long since forgotten). Any truth to this? (Of course the reference in the Wikipedia article isn't sourced, so it could easily be apocryphal.)
  3. Reminds me I intended to DVR this, but assume it'll be playing all month. If only I can remember to look for it.
  4. Tempting. I've given away 2 or 3 copies of this box over the years, whenever I've found used copies cheap -- and I'm lacking a spare at the moment. Not in need of one for myself, but before you trade it in somewhere for less than it's really worth (if it comes to that), give me a holler, as I could be persuaded.
  5. Those Ed Schuller and Anthony Cox leader-dates are stunning (Dewey's contributions in particular), and Ethan Iverson's date is none too shabby either. I really LOVE Dewey's playing around this time -- very 'inside' in terms of timbre, but very 'outside' or at least 'adventuresome' harmonically. Some of the most evolved tenor-playing I know of personally -- challenging and approachable, all at the same time.
  6. Also, Ornette's 1979 album "Of Human Feelings" swings like mad, in my book. (My favorite 70's Ornette.)
  7. Thanks everybody. The big 46 - still mid 40's, right?
  8. I'm the same way with Don, especially "Complete Communion" - which is nearly his pinnacle.
  9. Another previous topic I started a few years ago... "Avant-Grease & Mixed-Meter Boogaloo: brainy stuff"
  10. The most recent Sam Rivers Moaaic Select (his Florida big band), swings like mad! Same with tr group's only other (and earlier) release, "Aurora". Like if Arnold Schoenberg were writing for big band, backed by James Brown's rhythm section. Highest recommendation!!
  11. Much inproved? That's tempting, as I've always loved this date. The SHM has the entire extra session, I'm sure, right? Improved how? - if I might ask.
  12. The whole movie appears to be on YouTube, just search on "Street Girls 1975". (On my phone, or I'd provide a link.)
  13. Have a happy, happy day - and another great year!
  14. 50 here, but I was a comp-sci major in a previous life (25 years ago).
  15. Looks like "Mode For Joe" has an extra presumably(?) previously unreleased alternate of the title track. Might just have to spring for that one... http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCQ-5120
  16. Have any particular titles gone out of print yet already? - or have any become difficult to track down? I've been meaning to get some more of these, but guess I need to move on it probably.
  17. Piss poor choice of headline copy-editing. Should have simply said "Cut Loud Music to One Hour Per Day". That's basically what the article is saying.
  18. I remember being excited for Tuesdays back in the day. Always swung by my local CD store back in Kansas City on Tuesdays right after work. What the hell else was there to get excited about on Tuesdays? I liked it falling then, actually.
  19. If Woody Shaw is also on this material, I'm in - even if Larry Young is playing accordion.
  20. Anybody have and can share the complete track-listing for the Larry Young / Woody Shaw CD release? One disc, or two? Many thanks!!
  21. Specifically when it comes to Trane, I'm one of the least knowledgeable of the regulars around here -- but I'm sure glad to see "Alabama" included in the revised list.
  22. About 60% through now, a good read. Had planned in getting this eventually, when a friend gave me a copy about a week ago.
  23. Symphony in C is another Igor piece I absolutely *love*, but have never heard a live performance of. What's the story (if any), of its lack of being programmed much, if ever -- ??
  24. I've thought about getting Carter Jefferson/The Rise Of Atlantis for eons. Somebody convince me the time is right. I've never heard it, but I think Hino is on it, iirc (and Woody Shaw produced it, right?). Maybe finally.
