  1. Much inproved? That's tempting, as I've always loved this date. The SHM has the entire extra session, I'm sure, right? Improved how? - if I might ask.
  2. The whole movie appears to be on YouTube, just search on "Street Girls 1975". (On my phone, or I'd provide a link.)
  3. Have a happy, happy day - and another great year!
  4. 50 here, but I was a comp-sci major in a previous life (25 years ago).
  5. Looks like "Mode For Joe" has an extra presumably(?) previously unreleased alternate of the title track. Might just have to spring for that one... http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UCCQ-5120
  6. Have any particular titles gone out of print yet already? - or have any become difficult to track down? I've been meaning to get some more of these, but guess I need to move on it probably.
  7. Piss poor choice of headline copy-editing. Should have simply said "Cut Loud Music to One Hour Per Day". That's basically what the article is saying.
  8. I remember being excited for Tuesdays back in the day. Always swung by my local CD store back in Kansas City on Tuesdays right after work. What the hell else was there to get excited about on Tuesdays? I liked it falling then, actually.
  9. If Woody Shaw is also on this material, I'm in - even if Larry Young is playing accordion.
  10. Anybody have and can share the complete track-listing for the Larry Young / Woody Shaw CD release? One disc, or two? Many thanks!!
  11. Specifically when it comes to Trane, I'm one of the least knowledgeable of the regulars around here -- but I'm sure glad to see "Alabama" included in the revised list.
  12. About 60% through now, a good read. Had planned in getting this eventually, when a friend gave me a copy about a week ago.
  13. Symphony in C is another Igor piece I absolutely *love*, but have never heard a live performance of. What's the story (if any), of its lack of being programmed much, if ever -- ??
  14. I've thought about getting Carter Jefferson/The Rise Of Atlantis for eons. Somebody convince me the time is right. I've never heard it, but I think Hino is on it, iirc (and Woody Shaw produced it, right?). Maybe finally.
  15. If you ever get around to Next Gen, it doesn't really hit its stride until the 3rd season. Most of season #1 (Next Gen) is downright aweful, and so is nearly half of Season #2 (again, Next Gen). Riker grew the beard between S's 2 and 3, so the quick rule of thumb is to ignore anything with clean-shaven Riker. Also, Jim, how in the hell did you make it this far without having ever seen even one original series episode? Really, how?
  16. I'll be at that Smithsonian gig - only 3 blocks from where I work!
  17. Yup, first two names I thought of too - Eddie Henderson (his first two leader-dates on Capricorn are fantastic, and collected on one CD), and Hino. Would love to know if anyone else was playing quite like this specifically in the 70's (I realize there have been others more recently, in the last 20-25 years).
  18. As far as the book, how is his coverage of his time immediately after Miles? Would love to hear more about The Prisoner and the Warner Brothers years, or even Speak Like A Child.
  19. I have both as Japanese reissues on CD (my copies are at work, or I'd cite when they were issued), they I've had them at least 6 years, iirc. There's also one (just one?) similar trio date under Ron Carter's name - which is a 3rd title by this same trio well worth getting (my copy's also at work). Are those the only three titles with/by Herbie+Ron+Tony? Or are there any others? Thanks!
  20. My sole MacMillan disc is a BIS recording of his trumpet and clarinet concerti. Will give a listen soon (haven't spun it in recent memory), and report back here.
  21. Any other notable early recordings of Harper? Not just underground, but legit released stuff? When/how did he hook up with Gil Evans? Or Art Blakey, for that matter. I have a good smattering of what I think is relatively early Harper, but am realizing just how little I know about his emergence on the scene early on. The AMG suggests his Gil Evans recordings might be his earliest commercial sessions, is that correct? Or is there anything else around that same time that's not as widely known?
  22. What were Billy's earliest debut recordings as sideman? Those two grey-market (semi-legit?) live dates with the Jazz Messengers are from '68 iirc, but what (if anything) was recorded earlier?
  23. Pretty sure I saw him with Sun Ra too, back in 1990 (at the Cubby Bear in Chicago).
  24. I got 24/30 -- and not at all to my surprise, my wife got 29/30. Yay Mrs. Rooster!! (She reads way more books about history than I ever have.)
