  1. I thought I'd seen that avatar before. Liketowatch did sign up a while ago, and seems to have tag-team-spammed us back then. WOW Anybody lurking for that long should know the tenor of the board.
  2. It's rare for spam to mouth back, but it's been known to happen. btw, in the second thread liketowatch started, it was "The Gentle Giant Band". And for the record, I do like Garaj Mahal (just saw them in Indy a few weeks ago), but I think I prefer Fareed Haque on his own.
  3. Last night I went to check out the msu student jam at a local cafe... and Henry Butler showed up! He sat in at the piano accompanied by Randy Gilespie and Wes Anderson. Fun; he's a nutty player.
  4. yeah I also like that guy Led Zeppelin (too bad he died), and Pink Floyd, he was great.
  5. I thought Pandemic was an early/mid '70's electric Miles album.
  6. Pesto on vegetable pasta w/ chopped tomatoes. All ingredients from the farmer's market.
  7. Looks like members can now stay right here to get their porno fix.
  8. Sorry for Jim. Malone and Frisell seems an extremely odd combination.
  9. On a technical note: I could be wrong, but as I understand it, the term "riff" generally refers to a short melodic theme, typically one that is repeated, and "modal" refers to the underlying harmonic structure. Two different realms; I've never thought this recording lacked heart, and certainly not beauty. Posturing? Obsessing over icy riffs? Not as I hear it. Open, relaxed, and very melodic improvising? Yes. And geez...
  10. Strange that I would have been thinking about this briefly yesterday. I think he was pretty unique in that world.
  11. This is, like, two-year-old news, man!
  12. Thanks Laz! Looks like I'll be making some roadtrips, despite the cost of gas. BTW, I just saw Wynton's workshop with the Interlochen and MSU jazz bands on Monday, and in spite of the fact that, going in, I was slightly biased against him, I thought he did a great job with the whole thing. Jesus - I've never seen Founder's and Maria Schneider mentioned in the same paragraph before. For a split second I thought I might have a chance to raise a Dirty Bastard with Maria!
  13. Huh - dour and gloomy were the furthest adjectives from my mind at the show I saw.
  14. I've seen him live just once, and think he plays beautifully and projects a great sense of spirit, but don't know much about him beyond that.
  15. Thanks - didn't know much about them. When I was deep into my bluegrass phase (age 10-15), I had a song/guitar instruction book written by Happy. Had one of those little floppy 45s with it.
  16. Then you're in for a treat. The song that follows Danco is my personal all-around favorite from this disc, and I think you'll really dig Jim's Rhodes improv which closes the session.
  17. I might check it out, what the heck.
  18. I just ordered a couple of guitar ensemble charts arranged by Mundell for the studio class I'm teaching. Not very familiar with him, but I like what I'm hearing.
  19. I agree. Some banks will shut down, but the financial system will survive. It always has. But not always in the same form.
  20. You missed your calling.
