  1. Happy Birthday Chuck!!
  2. Likewise.
  3. Received my copy today. While I have known and loved this music forever, it is nice to have in a CD format (plus the unissued track - Repetition).
  4. Just stumbled on this this on Prime. Definitely worth watching.
  5. It seems most of the vinyl only releases come with a download card - particularly if it is lossless, I am good with that. Absent that, I suppose I would if I really wanted the title. Occasionally you find something that is only available in a download. In that case, it's a toss-up between buying the download or trying to find a nice used vinyl copy on ebay or discogs. I typically use a streaming service if I a) am in the car, b) want to preview a potential purchase or c) am too lazy to dig out the CD if it isn't already in my iTunes library. There is something about buying a physical product that I still like, although my kids think I am nuts. Something about committing to the music. If you throw down some cash, you have made an investment, physically and for me psychologically. Like others mentioned, I also like the notes, the photos, etc.
  6. Another vote for Hank. I didn't realize the poll was online.
  7. Bought it based off this thread. Echo these comments on both counts!
  8. Agreed 😀
  9. Definitely a fan and wishing him all the best.
  10. No doubt on all accounts!
  11. The latest issue of Jazz Times has a Resonance ad that also mentions "the first official release of previously unissued Eric Dolphy studio recordings in over 30 years".
  12. I bought the deluxe version and have been through disc one a couple of times. It is very enjoyable stuff - to me, something of an extension of the work on Atlantic. In case anyone is interested, you can use iTunes to "edit out" the announcement of take numbers, which I found (slightly) annoying.
  13. Paquito D’Rivera - Live at Keystone Korner
  14. George Coleman - At Yoshi’s
  15. Found a "New" copy on Amazon - the vinyl, not the CD. Ordered it - why the hell not?
  16. Been listening to this one quite a bit lately. Even though the album spans a couple decades, it holds together very well. Barron definitely has a distinctive, interesting tone and the tunes are also his. Very much of a keeper.
  17. Per amazon: Disc: 1 1. Untitled Original 11383 - Take 1 2. Nature Boy 3. Untitled Original 11386 - Take 1 4. Vilia - Take 3 5. Impressions - Take 3 6. Slow Blues 7. One Up, One Down - Take 1 Disc: 2 1. Vilia - Take 5 2. Impressions - Take 1 3. Impressions - Take 2 4. Impressions - Take 4 5. Untitled Original 11386 - Take 2 6. Untitled Original 11386 - Take 5 7. One Up, One Down - Take 6
  18. They do have a Woody Shaw and a Dexter Gordon coming out soon.
  19. Good point. I came of age in the lp era and 35-45 feels about right for me, although when I still play lps, 18-20 minutes seems to fly by. For me it is an attention span thing and a perception (not by any means a fact) that beyond say 50-55, you are throwing some filler in there. Lately I have been grooving on the relatively new Bill Evans set called "On A Monday Evening" which comes in at 48 or so and seems perfect. If I want more, I just play it again
  20. Harold Vick - Commitment
  21. Thanks for the heads up.
  22. The operating company that manufactures the guitars is fine and profitable. The parent company had too much debt and so the only ones hurt here are their shareholders. Someone else will end up owning the company but day to day operations should stay the same.
  23. I find myself listening to this one quite a bit. Lee plays his ass off and the tunes are nice too. Definitely not "in the solid hard bop camp". As mentioned earlier, it really is a group date - plenty of solo room for all. Just makes you wonder what else he could have done.
