  1. I was struck by the same thing - until it was pointed out she is supposed to be walking on ice. Once again, Dad does not know jack.
  2. Thought this might of interest to some here (claims/appears to be an ESP test pressing on eBay): https://www.ebay.com/itm/175087032766?hash=item28c40019be:g:Ra8AAOSwbM9hzN-6
  3. Carolina Soul = "the new bastards" (sorta) This was a fun auction to follow. I thought about it on a couple items, but did not want to pay the autograph premium. Hey Dan - how does one search for a seller on Discogs? I have bought a number of things from them on eBay. Also bought a copy of their book for my son, who knows some of the folks involved in the business from his college DJ days. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316419710/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. Not an Excel guru here. I grabbed one of the files from jazzdisco.org and pasted to Excel. Here is an example: BLP 1519 Herbie Nichols Trio 1956 I am able to use text to columns to separate the "BLP" from "1519" and "1519" from "Herbie." Not sure how to separate the "Trio" from "1956." I mean, easy enough for one row, but not sure how to do it for 400-500 rows.
  5. Well I know the Morgan set was strictly not a Tone Poet - but certainly of the same “build” - and digital versions there. Seems odd they would turn away the dollars
  6. Hey Rooster - St. Louis was mail order only - Jaybee Jazz in Creve Coeur. They would send these flyers on colored paper - I should see whether I still have one around. Used them from mid-80s until they ran out of business. Perhaps they ran out of cut-out Blue Notes to sell. KC - yes, best advice was from Music Exchange. I came in once looking for a Freddie Hubbard record and they turned me on to this Lee Morgan guy. My first lp came from there - The Procrastinator double lp, which I still have and love. Pennylane had a very nice selection as well. Recycled Sounds came a bit later for me. Bought a ton of great early 80s punk/new wave for <$5 each there. But not as much on the jazz side. I liked that place though. You probably don’t recall, but I believe we met each other at the Pennylane after they moved Jazz to the basement. I believe it was through a common acquaintance - the guitarist Monte Muza - who introduced us at the store. Mid-90s most likely. PS - there was also a Pennylane in Lawrence when I went to KU. Very knowledgeable staff. I bought everything from bebop to avant garde - to me it was all good - just jazz to these newbie ears.
  7. Maybe living in a college town close to a “jazz city” (Kansas City) allowed me to miss some of the scarcity. I started buying jazz records circa 1981 or so and the two large local shops had plenty of jazz. Lots of imports (Soul Note, Black Saint, Res) both for new releases and BN reissues (Japanese, French). And all the Milestone 2fers plus tons of OJCs, plus of course Muse. I also found a place in St. Louis (from an ad in the back of Downbeat) that sold cut-out BN titles, tons of them, cheap. There were stores that carried them in KC as well. PS - college town was Lawrence, KS, University of Kansas, whose students over the years included Nathan Davis, Carmell Jones and Bobby Watson. PSS - my search was guided by the Len Lyons book, 101 Best Jazz albums and a very passionate professor of jazz at KU, Dick Wright. Very knowledgeable staff at stores in both Lawrence and KC.
  8. Wow - followed the link to your show - which led to the interview with Lundvall. Fascinating - and thank-you for linking it!!
  9. Completely agree. Nice to see the Penthouse stuff out a few years ago.
  10. Interesting. Here is a predecessor LP with Evans/Wilson, but a different drummer. Never seen this one before. https://www.ebay.com/itm/313565012210 Edit - I see Dan made reference to this one in a 2008 post ... 😊
  11. OP - you might check Discogs.
  12. I owned this beauty for years - heavy rotation back in the day (early 80s). I had seen some of the crappy vinyl covers posted above. Those and the darlings from Trip. I just figured this was how it was. Ebay top dollar was not front of mind And the music on this one was so deliciously raucous I could not have cared less. Hell, it was my first Art Blakey (circa Blue Note era)! I also had Stick Up - and was damn glad to own it. And the Dexter Gordon, which did a better job with the original cover. Same for the Grant Green, I Am Blue. Sucked then too
  13. Ha - just bought the vinyl off Discogs for a decent price. Looking forward to digging in.
  14. Traveling to Paris to visit my stop-son. Any recommendations for record shops or clubs that are good for our sort of music? Thanks!
  15. What he said!
  16. Nice. Looks like a wide range of titles.
  17. Well said - thanks for that.
  18. Yes, that is correct. Not a fluent FB user myself, tried to copy/paste the text here with no luck. Some interesting details I can share later if interested.
  19. Interesting discussion here … https://m.facebook.com/wallenbink
  20. Yes, he is excellent on those sides.
  21. Listening to the "We Remember You" Lee CD today. Did a search for "I Remember Britt" (love that tune) and found this. Note sure if identical to the old YouTube video, but definitely an improvement on this: https://mosaicrecords.tumblr.com/post/163302535360/lee-morgan-i-remember-britt-its-amazing-how https://www.shoutfactorytv.com/soul/soul-s1-e9-lee-morgan-horace-silver-bobbi-humphrey/599b6b5d3d3f53151d002be2 All three of the "We Remember You" tracks are on the video, in color and of pretty good quality. Wow ...!
  22. Well, 16 years after starting this thread - nothing - never seen it for sale. I will check back in 2037.
  23. Bringing this one back up. I will be in Philadelphia this weekend. Any recommendations? Thanks
