  1. George Coleman - At Yoshi’s
  2. Found a "New" copy on Amazon - the vinyl, not the CD. Ordered it - why the hell not?
  3. Been listening to this one quite a bit lately. Even though the album spans a couple decades, it holds together very well. Barron definitely has a distinctive, interesting tone and the tunes are also his. Very much of a keeper.

  5. They do have a Woody Shaw and a Dexter Gordon coming out soon.
  6. Good point. I came of age in the lp era and 35-45 feels about right for me, although when I still play lps, 18-20 minutes seems to fly by. For me it is an attention span thing and a perception (not by any means a fact) that beyond say 50-55, you are throwing some filler in there. Lately I have been grooving on the relatively new Bill Evans set called "On A Monday Evening" which comes in at 48 or so and seems perfect. If I want more, I just play it again
  7. Harold Vick - Commitment
  8. Thanks for the heads up.
  9. The operating company that manufactures the guitars is fine and profitable. The parent company had too much debt and so the only ones hurt here are their shareholders. Someone else will end up owning the company but day to day operations should stay the same.
  10. I find myself listening to this one quite a bit. Lee plays his ass off and the tunes are nice too. Definitely not "in the solid hard bop camp". As mentioned earlier, it really is a group date - plenty of solo room for all. Just makes you wonder what else he could have done.
  11. Bobby Hutcherson- “Conception”
  12. I am enjoying both the Hubbard and the Shaw. Great opportunity to contrast the two trumpeters, bands and tunes. Giving the edge to the Shaw, but having Caliman is nice on the Hubbard.
  13. Managed to score both of these at Record Store Day - was pretty amazed as I was not there early. Looking forward to spinning them both later.
  14. I live in KC and have not been in years. My impressions are similar to those above. Not even remotely close to the country music hall of fame in Nashville.
  15. Since it is available at a decent price, any opinions on the music? Front line looks great of course.
  16. How do you search for buyers on eBay? Thanks
  17. So he was 18, maybe a senior in HS or freshman at UCLA. Didn't realize the jazz bug bit him that young.
  18. Wow - missed this until I saw today’s Jazz Times. Too bad - what a great artist. His ECM work is tremendous.
  19. Yeah, that was one of my first, along with The Procrastinator. Two-fer BNs of the early 80s.
  20. Not much of a Dylan fan but I love BOTT. And Bootleg No. 8 (go figure). I get the love and all for him, but these are the only two that stuck with me.
  21. Received this DVD for Christmas and just now watched it. Really well done, utterly fascinating in fact. It really plays like a biography of Morgan, with Helen as one of the contributors. And then of course it turns. The first hand observations of Billy Harper and others are chilling. Lee Morgan is one of my all-time favorites. His music has been important to me for 35+ years. If you feel the same way, this is a must-see.
  22. Oh yeah. One of my first Lee albums. Love it.
  23. Curious how you like the Reggie Moore CDs ...
