  1. Mmmm, yes! Gets my vote.
  2. I've been seriously digging Bobby Hutcherson lately, bigtime! I always respected him as a sideman, with the likes of Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson, Lee Morgan and so on, but was a little wary of getting his albums as a leader. Well, no longer! A recent live gig gave me the impetus to start getting his albums, and I can't get over how good they are----I've been playing 'em to death!
  3. Got to strongly second the "Reconsider Baby" recommendation. It's such a thoughtfully put together comp. that it plays like a very good "theme" album (the theme in this case, of course, being bluesy Elvis)---that was on heavy rotation on my stereo for a long time. I was already a big fan of the Sun stuff, but this LP upped my respect for Elvis a couple of notches. About the same time, a compilation came out of Elvis's immediate post-army work. It has "Little Sister," "Marie's the Name," and "Whole Wide World" among other gems. The thing peters out on side two, but it's still worth having. "Reconsider Baby" is more consistant though.
  4. I love Payne (Cecil, that is) and am now feeling mighty left out that I don't have any of those Delmarks. I should work on rectifying that.
  5. Thus the "pressure" of being rich. There is an overwhelming responsibility to "manage" the money. It's like being chained to an iron ball, I bet. It seems that rich people are seldom happy. Yeah, my heart bleeds. Rich people love to make the rest of think their riches make them miserable. Don't you believe it. Most of them are having a grand old time. They love to manage money, they love to spend money, and the famous ones, by and large, love the attention.
  6. I'd say anything the Wall Street Journal's editorial section is against must be good, and what they're for must be evil, but that would be a sweeping generalization.
  7. A hearty "Here, here!" to that.
  8. Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy---Brian Eno I'm too cheap to get the CD.

    Benny Golson

Maybe I should check this out. (!!!) The last thing I saw at Yoshi's was Bobby Hutcherson with McCoy Tyner, and that was great.
  10. You beat me to it.
  11. Thanks. Got it when it came out, actually. Had the Mosaic LP box before that, too. I like Herbie Nichols.
  12. Got to admit, this looks good.
  13. If you don't like it you always can use it as a beer mat !! Keep swinging No, I like it fine. Played it many a time since then. Not as often as the average Hank Mobley album, mind you, but often enough.
  14. Somewhere in the Middle East, I believe. But don't quote me on this.
  15. You can tell that it's directed by a guy who used to direct cartoons, but yeah, I'd call it a classic of sorts. And probably the most impressive collection of live r'n'b and early rock'n'roll talent in any 50's film. I was surprised to see some rather obscure groups in it as well. (Perhaps they were big at the time...) But the Treniers, Fats Domino, Little Richard---WOW!!!
  16. Hey, you got me to buy it!
  17. She's married TWENTY times before? I would do some investigation into the circumstances of those earlier deaths if I were this guy. But they say love is blind.
  18. I've got that. Around here you can find used copies of those Time/Life Giants of Jazz boxes for $5.99 and less. (!!!) Highly recommended, BTW.
  19. I...I can't talk about it. Too painful
  20. That Mosaic with, y'know, that music...n'stuff.
  21. YEAH, man!!! Testify!
  22. It explodes. Beware.
  23. Hey Kalo, do you have this one yet? What say you?
