  1. Happy Birthday Mark and, yes, keep those great pictures coming.
  2. Sounds to me Dan that no matter what you say even giving her a discographical entry will not convince her.
  3. Lord had nothing but jazzdepot.com which owns High Note lists the following about this date: These sessions for Work Done date from the late 1970s and find Stitt at the peak of his powers, live in the white heat of performance with Ray Drummond, Eddie Marshall and others at the San Francisco jazz venue, the Keystone Korner. With Ed Kelly, piano; Ray Drummond, bass; “Smiley” Winters, drums Tracks: Barkan the Blue; Indiana; The Shadow of Your Smile; Lover Man; Constellation; You Are the Sunshine of My Life; Stardust; On a Clear Day; LooseWalk.
  4. A great gentleman of jazz has died. RIP.
  5. Our house is well conditioned but I better check tonight because you never know.
  6. I'll check Lord tonight to see if it's listed.
  7. A terrible shame. I first became aware of him listening to Dexter and found his duo work with Kenny Drew tremendous. 58 is too too young. RIP and thanks.
  8. I hope that at the very least they get rid of the ESPN crew. Those guys are awful. I actually turn the TV down rather than hear them. They'd be well advised to use Michaels and Madden (although I'm not sure he'd like being only on cable).
  9. I rarely have the time to do what the reviewer does but I don't take them in the car mostly because while I'm listening I want to be able to refer to the book. So while this may be listening in short burts, when it comes to Mosaics, that's what I like to do. On another point, I used to look down at people who said they preferred to have the individual albums rather than the whole set. However, over time, I've come to see the wisdom of that and while I still buy 'em and enjoy 'em, I can see what people mean.
  10. That would be an incredible shame and loss if they disappear. I hope someone fills the void.
  11. I collect JRVGs only. Got any holes to fill?
  12. I continue to find it amazing that the fed. govt. has made absolutely no effort over the decades to whip together a brief ad campaign stressing the importance of saving money. I use to have a pretty cool eagle looking bank when I was a kid, almost looked like one of those German type eagles. Apropos of not saving enough, there was an article this past weekend (can't remember where) indicating that most people are not really ready for retirement or even thinking about saving for retirement.
  13. I've got Say it Loud and I didn't know he used that dreadful thing but if he did I couldn't tell. I'll have to go back and listen.
  14. Like Jazzmoose said, it doesn't matter if you lead the whole way but where you are at the end. I think to call it sniping is pejorative. You're just trying to make sure you get the item for the least amount possible. Where this would be useful is having a bid at the last possible second. You always try to time it correctly but that doesn't always work and then you never get a chance to bid. So if the servers of esnipe and ebay are properly synchronized, you could at least get it in. This sounds like a business ebay would want to purchase as it's only to get bigger and lead to more money, a la paypal, which they now own. Anything that will get them more money will be of interest to them.
  15. Just jewel cases, no JRVGs?
  16. Except for a couple of things (Oliver, Billie and Yuseef), the September offerings are nothing to scream about.
  17. Sounds like the Koreans getting the short part of the deal.
  18. I don't know what you mean this year since they're out for the rest but I agree with the rest. I was in Milan on Tuesday night and saw the whole thing on TV and couldn't believe it.
  19. I just checked out their web site. It's incredible, to say the least. The next time I plan to bid on something I really want, I'll be using this. It'll probably be more effective than me doing it.
  20. What the heck is esnipe? You mean for a fee they'll bid for you at the last second. I do that myself but don't alway time it right. It might be worth it.
  21. Any thoughts on the the April 12 ones. I just picked up them up and haven't listened yet. Verve can't be serious about some of the April 26 reissues. Except for Max (which I have), the rest aren't worthwhile buying and Xavier (where's Charo) has got to be joke.
  22. I like this set and play it occasionally. I think the criticism from some quarters comes from the sound. I have no problem with the sound but I know others do.
  23. I think that when you listen to this box, you'll find you want more. It led me onto a whole another exploration of his other work from the 50s and the 70s. But if you do, avoid the varitone period. All the material released on 32 Jazz is great (since re reissued by Savoy) and so is the Verve material that kind of dovetails with this set.
  24. I'm sorry I missed it. I just got back from Europe today on business, a whirlwind trip in five days, hitting France, Italy and Germany. A little tiring but Nuremberg was worth it.
  25. How is this is not a legal issue? The fact that it's long OOP is irrelevant. The owner of the material, probably Nat's estate, and Mosaic might have some objections here if they knew.
