Sandy,
I think you need to take the credit for this. Wasn't it your idea originally?
Seem like great titles. I've never heard Where is Brooklyn so this will be my chance.
Good titles.
WKCR has announced that from April 1 through April 15 they will be having a Billie Holiday. That's nothing but Billie around the clock for two weeks. Should be pretty special.
My goal wasn't to close that thread but if that's what did it fine. I don't usually use intemperate language and if I offended anyone my apologies. With respect to Che, what I said was probably out of bounds, so to him my apologies. My perception is that he isn't good for this board, that's he's divisive. An outcropping of this is the political board. I don't know how many times I and others have begged or pleaded for it's removal. But no, it continues. To let it continue will be the ultimate undoing of this board. Let's leave it at that and move on and try to speak each other in a more dignified manner.
Did you kill the kid. I would have moidered him or at least grounded him for a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very long time.
Tsk, tsk. All the work you went through for that. Shame, shame as Gomer would say. Maybe the box sucks but the book looks good to me. After all the work I went through, I'm not getting rid of mine.
The thread that refuses to die is back. I received my box today. What an incredibly studid idea for packaging. The metal case is lame and so are the holders for the cds and the book. There's some rust and one if the cds has some scratches. I'll be tossing that metal case and buying cd cases.
You may now resume your normal programming.
I think some people who quit did ok like Stan Levey. Didn't Benny Golson do ok when he was away from the music scene. It must be rough nowadays to have make your living from jazz.
I need to post a correction. I meant the Roost Mosaic set. Also his last albums, Last Sessions, also on Muse, are really good. Can't say enough good things about Just In Case You Forgot... Tremendous album.
This is a fantastic, fantastic set. One of my favorites and I think the sound is fabulous. The notes by his widow are not too great but that's a minor annoyance. If you don't have, get it.
Che,
His Roulette albums are very good as are his Verve albums. My favorite period of his is from the late 40s until he was through with Verve. There is a Roulette Mosaic and it's great. In the late 70s, he had a rejuvenation since he had a rep of just walking through a lot of dates and sessions. Of course, his just showing up is better than 90% of other people.
Of his later stuff, I recommend highly Endgame Brilliance: Tune Up, originally on the Muse label and reissued out by 32 Jazz. It's some fine playing. All of the material re-issued by 32 Jazz is fine and since Savoy acquired the Muse catalogue, some of that is now being reissued by them.
