  1. This is a numbered set and whether it's limited or not is irrelevant (the LP version obviously wasn't). The reason that there are no music bites on the web site is obvious: the sound is not that good and the can only be appreciated by sustained listening. One little fragment will probably turn you off. This is a set worth picking up, minor criticisms aside. If you can't tolerate bad sound or are not a Parker disciple, then this set is not for you. But if you love Bird like I do, the set is a must. It seems that this thread or the idea for it gets trotted out on a pretty routine basis.
  2. I'll be playing some MJQ. My condolences to the Heath family. RIP and thanks.
  3. Why don't we split the state into two new states and call one Eastern Indiana and the other Western Indiana? The only hangup will be what state will they be talking about when you play "Back Home in Indiana."
  4. You guys need to get out more
  5. Recommended here also. Some like this better than the Mosaic.
  6. Not anything about these, but isn't this from an overly commercial period and quite different from his classic BN period. Reading all these comments, I'm probably on the fence about 'em now.
  7. I'm not too familiar with the people Alfred mentioned. Are they producers/engineers or label owners and what's the label. Sorry for the dumb questions.
  8. For the ignorant, what's a podcast? Downloading a broadcast to your ipod. If so, how do you do it?

    Charlie Rouse

Second these recs. Been listening to these two lately. Don't think anybody mentioned Unsung Hero on Epic. Also what about Taking Care of Business. That's a good one.
  10. Brad, you missed my last message from Michael, which I relayed in another thread. He made it pretty clear to me that the three Select concept is going to be a go. Dan, I actually did see that post. I'm just very doubtful, however. I'll believe it when I see it. I hope you're right.
  11. I've also discussed this with Michael (both in person and email) many times. Dan is essentially correct. However, I'm not very hopeful that this will ever come out.
  12. Has anybody heard of this music burning service. My son downloaded and he says it gets songs through Itunes but it's free. Without iTunes it wouldn't work. That doesn't sound too kosher and songs for free? I'm a little suspicious.
  13. Actually, some of the ebay scam ads I've received are so bad that you wonder why these people even bothered: typos, poor grammar, etc.
  14. I think the retro was from a different period, his classic period. This all 69 to 72, more commercial. Doesn't sound like anything I'll be interested in.
  15. I bought a cd from them and got the same message. Gave me a good laugh. I don't think they take themselves too seriously (which is nice to see).
  16. Didn't take this guy long to get banned. Must be a record. Reminds me of that old slogan: LSMFO. You've never heard of that one? Lucky Strikes Means Fine Organissimo
  17. For that price, it's a steal. Unbelievable deal you got.
  18. My earliest recollection is listening to my parents records, espcially broadway scores, like the Pajama Game, West Side Story and Guys and Dolls. They also had George M. Cohan records. I remember H-A-R-R-I-N-G-T-O-N spells Harrington. I can still remember that tune a little bit. I'm whistling as I write this.
  19. 20 years is a long time to look for a record. Incredible that you couldn't get it before now. Was it worth the wait?

You don't have to have the listening experience but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about Pres or Hawk. I'm not going to get into the top 5 thing but how about some guy named Lockjaw or Junior Cook?
  21. Bilbo Baggins Jeff Bagwell Duke of Wellington Patty Duke John Astin Morticia Addams (JK, just follow along for awhile... you'll catch on ) John Adams John Quincy Adams Adam Sandler
  22. I forgot to pick this one up last week when I was in Borders. Hope it's still there after reading this thread.
  23. I'll also be getting it.

    April OJCs

Unless I'm wrong, it seems like it's been about 6 months since we've seen any OJCs. Alan's jazz site has these coming out in the Summer along with the K2s. Weren't those also supposed to be out around now?
  25. It can't be soon enough.
