Have to agree with jazzshrink, underrated no. And a hell of a talent. I just picked up a live set with him and Stan Getz At the Haig and he smokes. Thank goodness, no singing on it though.
I think this got lost in the shuffle but today is Grant Green's birthday. He would have been 74 years old. I was listening to Disc 5 of the Horace Parlan Mosaic and there's some fine Grant on there. So thanks Grant.
This is not a totally helpful answer to your question but see the Paul Desmond Google Discography Page for general discographical information.
Regarding the individual cds, I think a lot of them are around still, some in stores, some online.
I like My Main Man although it's not a hard driving record but very enjoyable. Others that are good are that Hornful of Soul on Bethlehem and the Time session with Sonny Clark.
Thank you Tony. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm sorry I missed out on the Hodges cds.
You're in for a special treat with the Master Jazz Piano set. One of my favorite sets.
The only Bosco I know goes into milk .
This set is a must set and if you love Pepper or Byrd or both, don't let this go by. Act Now! Or You'll Be Sorry
No offense but we in the US have been getting hit hard with the exchange rates so I'm not upset to see the Euro take a hit. For those going to Europe, we'll get more bang for the buck, so to speak.
Not sure Burton would do it for me at least not a whole box set's worth. I'd like to have the early 60s stuff but not the later fusion type material. Chu Berry would be something. Is that on the drawing board or just a wish?
Marcus raises a good point but also to see all you guys, find out what's going on, get advise, see what's selling. If I hadn't seen Tony's post, I wouldn't have scored the Miles Gil Evans set from him on ebay. So this is a great organic place.
Anything by Earl Hines basically. No longer available but if you see it get is Mosaic's Master Jazz Piano. It's all solos and exquisite. I think one of the better Mosaics they put out.
I'm not too sure about the Cannonball but what the hell, I'll get it. The one I definitely won't be picking up is Johnny Smith; he's just too laid back for me. I've got the Moonlight in Vermont they put out separate from the Mosaic and while one is ok, I can't see buying another.
Might pick up the June Christy. Would like to check her out. Plus the others on the list too, esp. Jones/Lewis.
B for B,
I was at JRC a couple of months ago and Fred had gotten rid of all the trays he had for the Fresh Sound Cds. It was a little disappointing. The selection wasn't what it used to be cd wise.
