  1. I haven't met anybody but as usual it would be nice to have a big get together.
  2. Looks like Dusty Groove has some of these.
  3. I think I have the Sweets as an American Record Society LP, the one with the pink inner sleeves. Got it on ebay for a nice price, and it is indeed a great album. Just saw this on Alan's web site and am looking forward to Sittin In, Joe Newman and the Al Cohn. Looks like a great April 12.
  4. They're very definitely worth picking up. The difference is that they had alternative takes on their cd and impeccable lengthy detailed liner notes. CC only has master takes and about a half page of intro notes.
  5. So he's banned? No great loss (as many of you might guess).
  6. I bought out all the Nabors Mosaics. Figured I'd do a little hoarding. I'll sell you one but first I have to offer it to Allen Lowe for around $2,000.
  7. Yup, that should be some serious booty, esp. with Serena.
  8. Love to go but alas the closest I'll get is my business trip to Germany in two weeks. Any suggestions on Nuremberg restaurants?
  9. I'm going to ignore this thread
  10. As a reminder, this festival starts tonight (or Friday morning) at 12:01 est.
  11. Looks like Aric has moved to Richmond.
  12. Mostly use it in the gym (a company one) so I'm not too concerned.
  13. Calling this material "throwaway stuff" doesn't seem to make much sense when it applies to the collaboration of these two. Some of Byrd's solo material, BN or not, may not be the stuff of legends but there is some fine material there: Transition, Savoy are very good and let's not forget his appearances on some of the Wallington cds. As far as Blue goes, much of his BN material is memorable as is his Riverside work. I often reach for the Mosaic. It's one of my favorites.
  14. Not sure what you're looking for exactly.
  15. I kind of agree with Dan. I've got the Select and sold the earlier discs but I have a little trouble getting into this set. Yes, he's no Kenny Drew. The groups on the Steeple Chase discs are damn good.
  16. Ray and I are not in cahoots but the Kenton presents of Rosolino, Holman, etc. is a very good Mosaic. If you're into the California sound or just plain good jazz, this is a great buy, esp. if you missed getting this before it went oop.
  17. Big thumbs up here for this set and since we're mentioning Live at the Half Note, check out, under Pepper's leadership, 10 to 4 at the Five Spot. Great disc.
  18. Dan, Sorry you lost your job but good luck in the new one. Florida always seems like an up state to me so I have to think you'll do well.
  19. On a related note, this is what they appear to be doing with the Basie Mosaic Roulette Studio material. A bit of that has come out in the past few years and I would expect to see more.
  20. It's hard to know where to begin with a topic like this but the material at the Royal Roost that's on the Savoy Live set is fabulous as is the Bird at Birdland material. There's also the Mosaic box that has a lot of good nuggets (although this box is not for everybody). But the Uptown releases are very good.
  21. Ditto. I'd like to hear the Allen-ized version.
  22. Lon, I agree with you but for someone who only has the Blue Notes I don't know if that's the way to go until they've listened to other material.
  23. WoW! Just saw this thread. How exciting, to say the least. Quite happy for you Dan, to say the least. Love to hear a cdr if that's possible. You never know what nuggets you're going to find.
  24. 178? Man, that's a good couple of weeks for me. Either no job or very tolerant boss.
