Monkboughtlunch, You raise some convincing points and you're obviously an engineer who knows Rudy well so I'll defer to you on these points. But it would be interesting if someone could ask Rudy about this.
-
This could be a normal out of stock situation (hopefully). You'd think an Art Farmer title would not be that quickly deleted.
-
You're probably right about deleting this thread. Those who are going to have read it and be warned have probably done so already. It's just not good if it's not resolved, with or without this thread. If it happened to me, I wouln't be a happy camper but at some point, you have to reluctantly concede it a loss.

Don't forget about the Art Pepper. That's a classic in my books.
-
Thank you for posting that Wesbed. I'm not sure I see the relevance of this kind of thread. We all received good music, isn't that what matters?
-
Especially when your responses consist of quotes and adding one or two lines.

I went ahead and got a new one, an Alpine. It's real nice.
-
We're getting it here soon. Nice time to crawl into bed and listen to some music. Good tomorrow's a holiday.

It strikes me as odd that Verve would issue the LPR then this but what the hell I'm glad to get the undubbed version of the last 6 tracks. Having the dubbed versions is all right but I'm glad I now have both. On another point, if Rudy recorded some of these tracks, I can't imagine that Creed Taylor would have someone else do it for the Alan Grant tracks. Since they apparently worked together, it would strike me as odd to have Rudy record one set and somebody another. As Rudy said on the recently released Perfect Tracks, it takes 3 days to do one of these sessions, why would you then have someone else do the same thing with the hours that you need to bring the equipment, set up and break down. I also find the sound to be very good on the whole cd. I will be selling my older Half Note, that's for sure.

I don't think we should have a feedback system here only because I don't see it as a function of this board. I see merits in both sides of the argument (handling it privately vs. airing it). However, since this isn't ebay and if a seller doesn't respond to emails or complaints (and I'm not trying to inject myself into the dealing Paul may have had with other people), I don't see much choice but to air this in this forum. Hopefully, in so doing, it will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

Ray, That's good to hear that they've improved. I might just take a look at some of their auctions again then because they do have soom good stuff.
-
I don't want to scare Pete but universal is notoriously slow in shipping and not that good at customer service. I don't find them at all reliable and I avoid their auctions now. Don't get me wrong. You'll get the item but unless they've improved, you need to keep after them. BTW, Indestructible is right. They put them on around 845, 850 EST. And like clockwork, they're gone in a few minutes.

This is getting somewhat boring. Dave's advice is very good. We all know what the relative boards are about and we all know that we're not trying to be patronising (which I think Bev recognized) so as Greg said let's get on with and start posting something useful. Sheesh!

I thought about that but my car didn't come with a cassette player so that option is out.
-
I've had my car about 5 years and do a lot of listening in the car. In the past few weeks, the cd player has developing a lot of static, interfering with the music and it's gotten worse to the point where the player now spits out the cd so it won't play. It's basically broken. Does this sound familiar to anybody. Is it worth getting fixed or should get a new player and if I get a new one, how much do you think I should spend on one since I'm only planning to have the car 3 more years or so. Any advice would be appreciated.

OK, Mr. V B-)

Brad, I think there are different types of "newbies". There's the type that are mostly looking for a group of individuals with whom they can enthuse about how cool all this shit is and little or nothing more. And I see nothing wrong woth that at all. But those are the types of newbies who are likely to not feel comfortable here. And yes, I do think that AAJ is a better "fit" for them. The type of newbie who's most likely to feel at home here is the type who has an active interest in learning about the music's history & heritage, as well as examining/debating the esthetic issues involved in same. I think that that's the "focus" of Organissimo musical discussions. That and BN/RVG fetishism. No intent to claim inferiority/superiority of either type of newbie or of either board. Just a recognition that "different strokes for different folks" is a good thing, not to be dismissed as an empty slogan, but to be recognized as a healthy choice for all concerned. Jim, As always you're right (or almost always ). I was referring to the first group that you mentioned. To me, you're not the Mayor (although that's ok too) but a wise older brother or even a father. As SNWolf said, avuncular.
-
First time I heard Jim referred to as an uncle. I think of him more as a wise older brother.
-
Like I said I wasn't trying to be nasty and applaud Jim's post. I think it expresses the philosophy here of experienced listeners and players. But if you're a newbie to jazz, I just don't think is the place. I think AAJ is that place. When I first joined the BNBB I was a newbie in all ways. After a few faux paux, I kept my mouth shut and basically read and listened until I had felt something I had to offer. The expression from my youth about being seen and not heard is still a useful one. I'm still in the learning mode (IMHO, you're learning till the day you die!), especially from people like Jim, Lon, Larry Kart, couw, and many others who are newbies to this Board but not to jazz.

the small market niche that jazz commands

Actually, the clerk sounds like he was just being truthful. The local borders is not too bad. They usually get all the new stuff and sometimes they surprise me with what they have. It's not perfect but in this world of suburbia it's the best we can do. That what's the internet is for. -
Sandy, Today's the day that you changed many lives. Hope you get what you want. Enjoy!

Anyone know where to get Bethlehem reissues
Brad replied to Jazztropic's topic in Offering and Looking For...
There's a few on ebay although not that one. You might also try japan: hiroshi@earlyrecords.com -
Reading this mano a mano going on here, as I read some of SNWolf's threads, he's beginning to make some of Clem's posts very lucid.
-
Without trying to be nasty, if newbies are looking for an introductory thread or what is jazz threads, I don't think this is the place. Try AAJ.
