Somehow I don't think on a conventional player, SACD is going to sound any better than a K2. If you're going to get a SACD player, I'd probably get the SACD however.
For those with glue residue on the discs, I found that the glue can be rubbed off if you do it carefully...
I hope to get mine in a week. How or what did you use to get rid of the glue, in case mine comes with it?
I received Say It Loud today and this being my first Water release and the first time I ever heard this date I think they did a very nice job. Sounds great. Lou sounds good, almost like early 60s Lou (not impling criticism here) but I really like Blue on this record. I also like the liner notes (original and new ones). Also the quality of the paper used is good, not flimsy.
If you're into the grease, you need to get this.
While these stories are great, I'm not sure I get the raison d'etre of this thread nor etherbored's post. The premise of the Selects is to use the original liner notes and only have original notes where none existed (i.e. unissued session). That being the case, nothing to get mad at Mosaic about.
I think the only times we're not is to people selling with their first few posts but I think lately it's more of a joke like "watch out for Chuck" than anything else.
I like the Kicker and I happen to have San Francisco (Harold Land), which is a favorite.
What's a paycheck date Chuck? Do ya mean just show up to get the cash and go through the motions, without any attempt to make great music?
Thanks guys. A couple of nights ago it was on for barely a minute. And about 2 weeks ago somebody bought it for $212 (not Universal). That guy must want to kill himself.
I told Reinier I would try to get it for him so he's next.
I was tonight's lucky winner (jazzeum is my ebay id) after several tries. Can't wait to get this one and see all that ruuuuuuuust.
I think a couple of nights ago it was on for less than a minute.
Maybe that's why these sets are $99. They can't sell 'em to retailers with that condition so they figure they'll sell it on ebay for a cutrate price. Still, not a bad deal.
You hear it all the time around these parts!!!
I can't believe this thread devolved into a rant for or against the Varitone. Christ, people, get over it.
Sometimes I think people don't actually listen to the music being presented. Sonny Stitt could play a damn plastic $5 recorder and the shit would be soulful.
Unless it was electrified. There's a darn good reason why this gadget wasn't loved universally but let's not restart the debate. When listening to Sonny's work, this isn't the first cd I'd reach for.
They're also running the same deal at the same price for the Brownie EmArcy box set, which saves about $30 (not bad), but nothing compared to the Bill Evans set which sells for $246 on CD Universe.
Looking at AMG, Lou did it on Blues Walk but it's also been done by Cannonball on the Lush Side of Cannonball, Sonny Criss on the Hampton Hawes Sessions, and Sonny Stitt.
