Now, that's a sale. Well, there goes a few bucks. I'll have to see if they take paypal since I have some surplus there. That Sadik Hakim does look interesting.

I wasn't really exposed to jazz when I was a kid but my parents loved to listen to show tunes and all the kind of music that serves as the basis for a lot of jazz. I used to love to listen to Gershwin, for example. I gravitated to the blues and eventually to jazz. The guy who really made love jazz was Art Blakey with Moanin'. It was like something went off in my head. The guy who cemented it was Bird, however. Incomparable. Bop is what makes me love jazz. I'm sort of like Philly Q and so is my son. The only thing he loves is video games. But when I was a kid you couldn't have foretold that I'd love jazz, so who knows? Maybe there's hope. He certainly knows and listens to jazz more than most kids or people. Osmosis

Dear Maxine, I am so thrilled that you posted here. Dex occupies a special place in all our hearts and as long as we live we will never forget him. Today, I was relistening to Dexter Rides Again. It's such an incredible album. I had heard about the festival at the Irridium and unfortunately due to family commitments I couldn't make it. I would have loved to be there. We hope you post here and give us any impressions that you would love to share with us.

If it's straight Verve, looks like only about 9 albums. In other words, doable. Are Reprise and the other labels now part of Verve/Universal. If so, that's probably not doable, unless it's just the Complete Verve Sessions. However, in looking at Mike's list it doesn't include King of Swing, which came out as an LPR a year or so ago, or April in Paris. Perhaps there are more Verves?

Well, from the foregoing it looks like all rules are out the window. Pity. Maybe we should amend that portion of the FAQ to indicate that anything goes.

FS- Various CDs Blue Note Conns, OOP,etc.
Brad replied to ralphie_boy's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Why don't you try ebay for SS. There's a lot of people out there who don't know of Mosaic or who don't necessarily want the Select. I speak from experience. Here, we're all experts. -
I got that email too but my only reservation is the sale price. $14.23 seems a little high for cds on "sale" or am I wrong about that?
-
Tom, I'm afraid that's not too much info. There's very little on him apparently.
-
I ran across this web site where it looked like Bobby's son posted. You could probably contact him for more info.

I know it's probably sacrilege but I put Basie before Duke. Old testament, New Testament; they can just play the hell out of it. Wish I had the Studio Mosaic.

The sentiment seems to be buy what you need now because you might not be able to get it after the sale. I guess my question (and maybe I'm just thick about this) is why is that the prevailing sentiment? I mean I'm not saying it couldn't happen but why do the experts here think that happen.

BTW, somewhat off topic, but that Dickenson date is quite nice. Worth picking up.

Jim, That was a hell of a story. I'm glad I asked the question. A few years ago, there was this sports art place in Connecticut (I forget their name) but somehow I got on their mailing list and they sold these numbered prints painted by a couple of different people. They had one of Willie's '54 catch but it was sold out so I wound up getting one of Willie hitting his first home run off Warren Spahn in the Polo Grounds. It's in my office and I love the painting. I get a lot of questions about it. Speaking of the Polo Grounds, my father took me there for my first game in 1962 when I was 12 years old, Mets v. Braves. The stadium was huge, I still remember that cavernous center field and there was this one guy who kept trying to steal second against the Mets. I asked my father who that was, "Hank Aaron", he said. He finally got the base. I still have the program. That was also a special day. Willie is the greatest I ever saw.

After reading this I was worried and then I read Chuck's comment and was even more worried but also puzzled? Do you mean the buyer will just fold most of the operations so they can get their hands on the rock part of the catalogue?

I don't know about PD, but she works well for me
-
PD, I wish you'd return and not just be a lurker. On the old BNBB you made many a contribution, especially in pre 1940s jazz and we could surely use that voice here now.

Jim, What's the occasion for making Willie your avatar. In my opinion, one of the greatest who ever played and, this will piss of Yankee fans, better than Mantle. As far as I'm concerned, he'll still be Number 3 in home runs all time, no matter what his steroid taking godson does.

Tony (Dr. J) had posted awhile ago about how the sound was terrible and how this had to be an improvement so I guess look for that to happen.

The SteepleChase item is still available. I just ordered it from Stateside

I would have missed this but for WKCR devoting their midday out to lunch program to him. Hard to have too many superlatives for him. He first shined (at least for me) on a date with Fats Navarro. Favorite dates: Jaws 'n Stitt, the Cookbook sessions, his pairings with Johnny Griffin, especially. Recent reissues that stand out for me are Bacalao with Shirley Scott, as well as Savoy's reissue of the Muse original, the Heavy Hitter. A very nice date.
-
The only thing I can tell you is that he appears on Sonny Stitt/Bennie Green's My Main Man on Argo, which was recently reissued in Japan. Nice player but I'd have to listen to the session more to give you a better flavor. AMG has very little on him.
-
I'd generally agree but with one caveat: they're very expensive, more than Hiroshi and the Groove. Unless they have one hell of a sale going on, I try to avoid them.

How Many Mosaics That You Own, But NOT Opened Yet
Brad replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have some cds that I haven't listened to but a totally unwrapped Mosaic no way. -
Hate to ruin all this love making going on but could somebody who has the set list the album titles or am I just being lazy and perhaps I should march over to AMG.
