  6. I have now adopted using a random integer generator program to help me decide what to listen to from my collection. Since I have a database of my collection on an excel spreadsheet, I simply run to program to generate a spefic number of integers that correspond with the location on the spreadsheet. So if I can't decide for myself what to listen to, I certainly can't offer any useful opinions. I also have boxes of CDRs from my misguided days of CDR trades that I have not listened to. A few months ago I started converting them to mp3 with the thought that maybe that would make it easier to work them into the listening schedule and also save space - but the truth is that I rarely listen to mp3s. I am not being helpful, am I? for what it is worth, I would say fill up your case with a random selection of all of it.
  7. I was a little disappointed after a couple of spins of this recording. I think of myself as a Kenny Garrett fan, but a couple of tracks on the new recording just did not do it for me. I plan to revisit it some time soon.
  8. Domestic or import label? Domestic this time...Motema Records Release date June 12. I believe it is a gig for the Hartford Jazz Society or something to that effect. This is the venue info they gave me Polish National Home, 60 Charter Oak Ave. Hartford, CT. 06103 Hope you can make it..... I happen to be the president of the Hartford Jazz Society and can confirm the venue is correct. Really Ron, I had no idea.....thanks then...looking forward to it.... At least you're not the treasurer Only since October, 2011. I was not even on the board before that.
  9. The final details have just been confirmed in the past couple of days, so hopefully we will be able to start selling advance tickets in the next week. You can check the website for more information Hartford Jazz Society. Seating will be general admission.
  10. Preminger's debut recording, Day Bridge Road, is very good.

  13. Saturday night I heard the Matthew Shipp Trio with Michael Bisio and Whit Dickey at Real Art Ways in Hartford. Good performance.
  14. I have it and think it is a very enjoyable recording. I was familiar with Herman before, but Chritsophe made a significant impression as well. If I remember correctly, he may have had a few lessons with Byard at some time. I recommend it withour reservation.
  15. About two weeks ago I finally contacted CAM Jazz about my Murray set. They also asked me to describe the flaws and asked for proof of purchase. Once I was able to get a reprint of my receipt from Dusty Groove (I had purchased the set about six months ago) and forwarded it to CAM Jazz I received a pretty quick response. I received my replacement set earlier this week.
  16. Could you be thinking of Joseph Daley's Earth Tones Ensemble recording, Seven Deadly Sins?
  17. Last night I attended a performance led by Italian trumpeter Fabio Morgera that included Steve Davis and young trumpeter Josh Evans. It was billed as a tribute to Horace Silver and if I remember correctly they performed "Senor Blues", "African Lady", "Barbara" and Joe Henderson's "Mo Joe". They are all very capable musicians and performed at a high level, but coincidentally when I started feeling a litttle bored some time during the second song, I could not help but think of this thread and wished they were performing some original music instead.
  18. Joe Giardullo's No Work Today: Nine for Steve Lacy on Drimala has several very nice solo saxophone performances.
  19. Now that we mention it, I do not think either of two recordings on Muse, Jazz Caper or Varations in Blue, have ever seen a reissue in the ditigal age.
  20. I read somewhere that the Billy Hart quartet with Mark Turner, Ethan Iverson and I think Ben Street recorded a new release that will be released in ECM sometime in early 2012. Looking forward to that!
  21. I picked this up when it was first issued a few years ago. Excellent music! What is also interesting is to hear alternate versions of a couple of compositions that appeared on other recordings. Now if we can just get a CD reissue of the 1972 Savoy recording, Motivation, I would be a happy man.
  22. I better check mine.
  23. It is how he makes a living. I imagine the artists he sat in with got paid.
