  1. get well soon Mr Murray. Your work on "Jump Up" is as fine as it gets, exhilarating........we are not at the opera on its way
  2. Just playing Jump Up for the first time- very impressed, I love Murray's playing, the whole set is fiercely original- very glad I got this
  3. Sun Ra- Heliocentric Worlds Vol 1 - ESP - recent reissue
  4. another for this excellent album. The titles may not sound that exciting but Frank Strozier plays then all pretty hard. A really good album. Worthy of reissue. Roy Haynes- People - Pacific Jazz (stereo)
  5. my copy arrived today, this set is going to take some digesting !!! so far the variation between the Golden Quartet and the Southwest Chamber Music groups works well.
  6. HappY Birthday, I greatly enjoy your contributions, have a great day ...
  7. Miles Davis - Dark Magus - (Columbia -Japan) pretty dark , 1974
  8. tasty line up doesn't disappoint
  9. Yes to your Jelly Roll question - after the first volume came out, Jazzology/Solo Art either lost the rights to the LOC material or found out that they never had them - I don't know the exact story. And I second your recommentation of the Barnes/Bocage Big 5. That's one of my favorite New Orleans sessions of the 50's - what a glorious mess it is. By that I mean that it's all over the place stylistically - Emile Barnes is playing a rough, early-20th-century style, Peter Bocage is also somewhat old-fashioned, but much more sophisticated, and Homer Eugene is basically playing bebop guitar. And nobody's worried that it might not work - they're just playing music. I love New Orleans - they still don't care about "styles" down there. Thanks for the great recommendation of the Barnes-Bocage Big Five 1954 ( American Music) - really enjoyed this session , my first exposure to this label. It's a bit lo-fi but worth it .
  10. Great one ! That LP gets lots of play here. It is good , I think better than his other ECM ( Love Love) but it's been a while since I played it. Now playing
  11. i was given this some months ago and liked it.
  12. another :tup for this
  13. playing some fusion tonight
  14. I've had this disc for the last fortnight. I really like it and it's seen heavy play. Excellent recommendation , I'll be looking out for my by her. Thanks for the recommendation.
  15. Nice find Adrian. There's some good music tucked away in there. I have a US copy. Yesterday also found a copy of Rollin' (MPS) - again a good one if more conventional hard bop but well played with no evident slacking
  16. Freddie Hubbard - High Energy- (CBS) UK ssue, Freddie in very fine form , out of Miles' electric bag, some tracks not 100% but a pretty good effort. Well worth the £3 it cost me at a record fair yesterday.
  17. Grant Green - Am I Blue (BN- Toshiba)- got this yesterday, I quite like it, sure it doesn't quicken the pulse but it's not soporific as some here have suggested.
  18. Happy Birthday Alex
  19. any sources for this book or should I wait for Dameronia: The Life and Music of Tadd Dameron by Paul Combs ???
  20. Earl Hines' QRS piano solos.
  21. I didn't sign up for the blindfold bit but this reveal piqued my interest and have to say this BFT disc sounds really good , a very well balanced compilation, highly enjoyable. Nice one.
  22. This Buddy Lucas? http://www.allmusic.com/artist/buddy-lucas-p99818/biography guess that must be him , him music as evidenced by these two sides is rather more considered and rather less novelty/honking as suggested in that bio.
  23. pretty much with you on the "hell....low" but I'd be more interested in the content of the programme . As long as listeners keep requesting Tommy Dorsey/Bobcats et al then it'll probably not have my attention.
  24. Cousin Joe Old man blues/ Too tight to walk loose (Savoy) Buddy Lucas Oh Mary Ann/Hi Didy Ho (Savoy) Eddie Greene’s Californians Flight No 39/ King Cotton (Savoy) Spun these non-jazz Savoys, all pretty much in R&B territory. Can't find anything about Buddy Lucas. His disc is marked Sav-O-Flex "Unbreakable under normal use". It doesn't exactly flex but I'd assume is made of vinyl rather than shellac. Nice quiet surface and two groovy tunes from the label that gave us Birds best (IMO).
