Like Mark, I am certain to get a Mosaic set. However, I did not request other music but rather asked for any and all World Champion Boston Red Sox paraphernalia. So, the two DVDs (by MLB and NESN), a championship tee or two or three, a championship hat ... I'll finally be able to show my allegiance, two months after the championship (I only sprung for an ALCS Championship t-shirt afterwards, I figured I could wait til Christmas. My wife already got a Miter Saw for her various house projects, but she's also getting quite a few books and DVDs, most of which she's anticipating but I always try to find something she'll like that she doesn't know about, and in that area, I've got an old Vincent Price DVD-The Last Man on Earth, from the Matheson story which was also made into the Chuck Heston flick, Omega Man. She Vincent Price in any horror movie, so I think she'll be really pleased with it (and it was in the 1$ bin at Target!). I also got her the Clapton guitar festival DVD that was mentioned here recently. Merry Christmas to everybody!

Given what Alou does to his hands, was anyone actually willing to shake on this deal? Meanwhile, I'm now hearing the best of all possible Christmas presents: Jason Varitek is re-signing with the Sox.

Funny, I live 20 minutes from Marty, and no original package yet. But I guess its close! Gave a listen today, Milan, and I have to give a big . Nice assortment of material, much of which I don't often hear. Seeing as that's the case, there are no guesses, other than saying that I'm pretty sure I heard Bird from the Benedetti box, and later on, Louis Jordan. Well worth the wait!

Reminds me of when a college buddy was studying for the LSAT. He was having a real hard time, and he'd ask me the questions, and I was getting them right, one after the other. Man, did that piss him off, that another poli-sci major, one who, unlike almost every poli-sci major since the dawn of time, didn't have any interest in the law, was breezing through it. As far as the GRE goes, I took mine over 10 years ago, so all of the changes since then render my experience pretty useless. I'm pretty sure the analytic part was being tested when I took it, it wasn't an official part of the exam yet. I remember hearing that the SAT is a good predictor, but my scores flipped from the SAT, with my math score being significantly higher, like 650, and verbal going down. I always had the feeling that my math score had a lot to do with my getting accepted at Washington University, where at that time the Political Science department had a strong reputation for econometric approaches to the discipline.

As the Dodgers got cold feet and sent Big Unit and Big George into paroxysms of rage, the Sox jumped quickly on one of the most suprising non-tenders of the year, former Astro Wade Miller. He's had two years of injuries but passed his physical so his "frayed" rotator cuff can't be too bad. And when healthy, this guy was awesome with the 'Stros, something like 32-12 his first two full seasons in the bigs. Like the Matt Mantei signing, this is one of those super-low risk, huge upside deals that Theo is really specializing in. If my math is right, for the money we were offering Pedro, we now have: Clement Wells Mantei Miller With Schilling apparently behind in his rehab, I feel much better having signed this guy, so long as he's healthy. We're really stockpiling the arms, while the Yanks are overpaying for what they've got, still can't get RJ, and still can't unload Kevin Brown. And if they end up with Vasquez, its not like he's going into the season feeling wanted or anything. BTW, we've cornered the market on "MILL*Rs": Billy Mueller at third Kevin Millar at first and now Wade Miller in the rotation. At least now we've got someone who spells it normally.

That and the fact that Mike could post about this super rare LP and in 12 minutes, someone steps up with an offer. Bet he didn't think it would happen that quick!

I have to say that "Two Brothers" is only for Candoli fanatics. They are way past their prime. I'm in the process of building a Candoli collection, and have several CD's in transit. Right now, I'd recommend "Powerhouse Trumpet" and "Confirmation", The Chiz Harris Quartet. Both feature Conti (you're not going to find much with Pete alone). There is also Pete and Conti Candoli, "Fascinating Rhythm" which I have but have not checked out yet, and "Conti Candoli" (VSOP) which has Vince Guaraldi on piano and Stan Levey on drums. All of these should not be too hard to get. As they say, your mileage will vary. But when all those CDs arrive, I imagine you'll discover the man's name was ContE.

Definitely! Just remind him how well-received your set was, you should have a definite advantage over all the people who are just trying to catch their attention for the first time.

As far as Mapleshade goes, I don't have the audiophile ears or equipment to weigh in on their techniques, but I am surprised to hear about their apparent business practices. What I am curious about is how someone like Larry Willis views them, since he seems to be on almost every recording, and I thought I heard he had some formal position with the company. Maybe he gets taken care of, so he doesn't care how the label treats other artists? Pretty sad, if that's the case.
