  1. I had a hard time reading through the linked article. The author lost me early on and as I skimmed through the rest nothing really piqued my interest. For general mood like this I think I'd prefer reading Robinson Jeffers.
  2. Interesting...
  3. I have the '86 set so maybe in the market for this one. Thanks for posting the news.
  4. RIP. Much respect to him and condolences to his family.
  5. Two songs into previewing this via Bandcamp and I'll be buying, prob just the digital release.
  6. Great. Thank you
  7. Yeah, entertaining as they show how corrupt the Euro Pez corporation is. Poor fella had no idea what he was in for
  8. Have any US-based forum members ever purchased from Storyville on Bandcamp? Currency is in DKK, which is good against the dollar, but wondering if this material is available elsewhere? They've got some interesting archive releases. Any recs on standout sets?
  9. I should have mentioned that I don't mind these award shows, although the Academy awards are usually my least favorite as they tend to be a bit stuffy and drag along a bit. They were much better those years that Billy C hosted.
  10. Just watched the Netflix doc The Pez Outlaw, which touches on collecting and flipping rare pieces for profit. I recommend that movie, especially from the angle of artificial scarcity and value. Reminded me a bit of the MMJ reissues vs the new Blue Note reissue programs.
  11. I saw Oppenheimer last year and was unable to watch these awards. Saw that it basically cleaned up. I wasn't impressed, but like Titanic, it must have involved a bunch of sophistication, tech specs etc that film buffs love and reward. It had its moments but overall was a boring slog for this uneducated film goer.
  12. Individual sellers seem to get left out in the cold when it comes to online auctions. Shops that buy collections don't/won't pay top dollar but can turn around and potentially get good money via eBay, taking on all the risk that an average individual wouldn't want to deal with. I'm sure there are some success stories out there with records and other collectibles but it appears all the big dollar items go back to stores/businesses.
  13. Great info. Thank you
  14. Thanks! I was searching for possible tracks from Tyner and Jones but wasn't having any luck. The Pee Wee is good too, bc that's definitely off the radar.
  15. Thanks but not exactly what I meant. Was looking for similar songs from other artists. A friend of mine who's getting into jazz asked me about it and I rec'd Clifford Jordan's song John Coltrane as something kind of similar.
  16. Any recs on similar tracks to Trane's Miles' Mode?
  17. It's interesting how these prices fluctuate. Comics are on a corrective path after some inflationary nonsense during/immediately after COVID quarantines. Maybe these values have shifted a bit toward records, but even with that high priced Blue Train, LPs for the most part are still a fraction of what comics are/we're going for.
  18. Damn. I'm jealous
  19. I like some of what I’ve heard from his albums. Definitely would like to catch him live one day. Seems like most neo style artists lean into electronics these days. It can work
  20. I have one Jacquet CD and it’s an early MCA sides collection. I actually included it in my first BFT I think. Anyway, found the album and love it and his playing, which seems similar to: Ben Webster, but less fuzzy (or whatever the technical term for that aspect of Webster’s playing is) Don Byas, but less vibrato Coleman Hawkins, but with less flourishes Arnett Cobb, but slightly less bluesy (like maybe 10% or so) which is all a good thing as it differentiates Jacquet from other masters, while also retaining the full spectrum of expression on the horn. Awesome player.
  21. @JSngry so it’s Jacquet and not Tate correct? Or is it Tate? I have very little Jacquet listening experience but almost none of Tate. After listening again this song was the star of the BFT for me. The patience exhibited on the sax and the deep feeling in that playing is always welcome.
  22. Ok, got the files to work! @Dan Gould I dig the big band and the bass here. No idea who this is though. @DrJ the band is nice. The singer’s lyrics are like a pep talk I give to my foster dog who’s a scaredy cat on the leash. I’m tempted to put this on headphones for him. No guesses on who this is. @felser this comes across like a song from a Tyner Milestone album but I don’t think that’s the case here. I dig the tune. @JSngry jeez this sax player oozes feeling. What a voice on that instrument. Trumpet too. This is an excellent tune. Can’t wait to find out who it is. @Joe this sounds like a Blue Note track and one I should know but damn, no guesses. Great playing. @Ken Dryden I respect the hell out church organ players but I really don’t enjoy hearing them that much. To do what this person is doing takes some real skill. But like Richard Pryor used to joke, that organ makes me think Dracula’s going to jump out from the corner any second. @medjuck love the tune. No guesses but impressive stuff. @mikeweil night in Tunisia (doh! Not caravan lol) but no guesses on the players. I dig the breakdown with drums, piano and percussion. Definitely my favorite part of this track. @mjzee another good big band track on this BFT. No ideas here but I enjoyed listening to it. @tkeith the violin is a nice touch. I like what they’re all doing and this is a good listen. Wish I knew enough to guess who this is. Thanks guys!
