  1. The Birdland 1953 set. It’s 3 CDs but I did digital only. Forgot to mention I also picked up the Sonny Stitt Acid Jazz & Kynard’s Afro-Disiac. Those Prestige sets are pretty cheap and give good reason to comb thru my OJCs and sell em off.
  2. I ended up getting some Sun Ra, Bud Powell, Jaws and Steve Tibbets. I’m new to bandcamp so these were my first purchases.
  3. AI mashups are going to be epic.
  4. Yep! That’s got to be the OG album that my Savoy CD copy included with another record. Sleuthed! 🍻
  5. lol his defense withered in crucial games. I’m surprised they went with Quinn but maybe the gig was a hard sell.
  6. Yes! Pepper and Cooper on Savoy. This will be sleuthed soon. Good ears man Nice. Thank you
  7. Washington hires Dallas’ DC Quinn as their new HC. My friends that follow them aren’t thrilled.
  8. Ok, back for the rest @Rooster_Ties this sounds a lot like a Miles 70s band. Like it’s from one of those complete sets or something…hmmmm. I dig it though I can’t place it… @sidewinder Is this an Ian Carr track? Or possibly related? I like the rhythm section and really the whole tune. @webbcity Jazz Messengers-ish in the beginning but that’s not my guess. Sounds more current. Bass and drums are laying it down. Wish I could make an educated guess on that trumpet…sounds familiar. Nice tune 👍
  9. Glad this track is being enjoyed by most. I’ll happily take the 3.5 stars! Ya’ll nailed Art Pepper which I thought would happen, and Jim got Bob Cooper too! It’s neither of their date however and it’s not a Paich record either. I’m betting this will be guessed sooner rather than later. Can I ask y’all what makes this sound west coast btw? I’m always trying to train my ears on this stuff and just want to know what y’all picked up on in that regard. I really love how they blend afrobeat into these rhythms and it seems like that’s a calling card of the London scene. I totally missed this one so thanks for including it here 🍻
  10. I had to sleuth but it’s track 3 from this album. Now this is on my radar
  11. Love this idea and happy to be a part of it! Cheers guys… @Big Al lovely tune and arrangement. Would this be bossa or bossa adjacent? Sounds like it might be the pianist’s date, but no guesses at the moment. @Dan Gould Bluesy of course! You’re the king of the jazz blues BFT tracks IMO. This is the kind of song I’d expect to hear at a music festival anywhere in the South. Creeping up on that 2:30 mark is when the groove really sets in and the sax player takes over. I’ll guess Lockjaw or maybe Cleanhead but certain I’m wrong. @danasgoodstuff Fantastic intro. Love the playing. Allen Toussaint maybe? @Eric that sharp attack on the horn here is familiar…hmmm…bassist is all over it too. Love how the song moves from a sax/bass duo to piano/drums duo in such a tight time span. Then they all come together toward the end for that post-bop groove. Nice one. @mjazzg oh yeah, this sounds like a Nubiya song or someone from the current London scene. That rhythmic blend sounds like an Afro-beat inspired shuffle and it is such a groove. Love this track. @randyhersom very soulful playing from that sax. Kind of Mobley-esque but it’s not him. I’ll come back later to finish up. Great collection so far!
  12. I’ve not heard any of these before and haven’t seen most of the albums they were pulled from. Thanks for compiling this - enjoyed listening!
  13. Just seeing EVD’s Hammond was nearly a religious experience. We almost didn’t get tickets as the tours are small. Thankfully some folks didn’t show for theirs and an alert employee let us know. Excellent site and tour. It would be my #1 draw for that entire city that I’d rec to anyone.
  14. I’m really surprised the Chiefs stymied Lamar and that Ravens offense like they did. No one has done that for quite a while. Congrats to them and the 49ers for the comeback victory even though Detroit in the Super Bowl would have been awesome.
  15. Not offended but honestly didn’t know if you were joking.
  16. lol are you kidding? There was a lawsuit filed a few years back by players against the nfl for excessive pain drug injections. It included over 600 players as plaintiffs I believe. AFAIK it’s never been settled. Former RB Ricky Williams was written about in SI this past fall as promoting marijuana over NFL teams’ heavy usage of toradol/vicodin and sleep meds. It’s an ongoing problem. You have reason to doubt this, why?
  17. Word is that it’s a post-game bonanza on toradol and ambien for these players, even in the regular season. They’re all highly amped, at least the guys who know they’re playing. Cheetah ain’t running that fast for that long on adrenaline and effort alone.
  18. 49ers and Ravens are the clear favorites at this point. And the way Lamar and the Ravens are playing I just don’t see them getting beat. Of course the 2 week lag between the conference championships and the Super Bowl can cool hot teams. Wish they’d just play the SB the week after while these players are ready to roll.
  19. Could be the horn making it palatable. Streaming this new one and maybe it’s just me, but like Terrible Animals it fails to rise above pleasant background music.
  20. These are on streaming platforms. Listening to the Charles Owens Mother Lode record now and it sounds correct. No idea if it’s the same as what’s on Good Time though.
  21. A few things: injuries, esp to defensive backs and offensive line Matt Patricia as DC was the wrong move. Even with their defensive injuries they underachieved. Losing Steichen who is now the Indy HC. He was the secret sauce last year and they floated by all year on the fumes from last season’s momentum. I’m not a Philly fan, these are just my observations from following the league this year. Nothing that can’t be fixed but they need to regroup this off-season.
  22. Helluva list man. Combing through will take some time. Do you have a sharable spreadsheet by chance? The format here isn’t necessarily friendly to this kind of thing.
  23. Cowboys. They didn’t have that late season skid that Philly did. Tampa beating them wasn’t that surprising given the way they’ve played for the past month or so. Dallas though. At home against an average offense. I think they got caught looking ahead.
  24. Le Rex’s Escape of the Fire Ants is recommended.
  25. Happy new year! 1. Nice groove, not a fan of the scatting. 2. Alto, tenor and bari pairing? Interesting. Overall a little forgettable. It’s got a TV theme styled head and comes across a tad corny. 3. Immediately reminds me of Junior Mance, specifically his work on Bee Hive. Bluesy but well done. Chicago style seems apparent too. Wish I knew who else to guess but no luck. 4. Late 60s style but not sure of when it was recorded, however it was recorded well. There’s some urgency in the pace but it seems mid tempo overall and that driving from the drummer and bass player is a nice aspect of this song. Great tune. 5. Sounds like a calypso song done jazz style, heavy on the piano. I’d guess Earl Hines. There’s a lot in that playing. Not sure at all on the trumpet player. Theatrics recall Dizzy but I’m thinking it’s someone else. 6. Nice track. Cecil Payne on bari? Love just about everything involved here. 7. Oh hell yeah. Love the organ intro and start here. Bluesy jazz guitar too. Wish I could place that guitarist. Another song that has it all. Fantastic track. 8. Very familiar song and I think I have this album but as it goes in BFTs I can’t make it out. 9. Ugh, same with this one. Totally recognizable. Really well done song with some prominent comping from the pianist. Hate I can’t recall who this is… 10. Art Pepper? Sounds like an alto anyway. 11. Walter Davis Jr? 12. Same organist as before? Like the combo. Recording quality is low but still not too intrusive as to prohibit enjoyment of the song. 13. This is the style of ballad I’m not all that fond of. The playing is good but they can’t escape the saccharine song feel. It’s an older sax playing style too. Maybe later Coleman Hawkins? He has saved some bad tunes before. Thanks for this BFT! Enjoyable all around and looking forward to spot on guesses and the reveal.
