That's much better than I usually do. Guessing Haden was an absolute dart throw. Will be interesting to find out who the pianist is. Interesting the Gonsalves track as well. I've only listened to him a few times, mainly via Ellington. Webster was the only other one I could think of for this song, but I was far from 100% on that guess.

1. Love the intro. Theatrical. Even though I dig it, it's not even necessary. Great playing. Pianist seems to be the leader. Reminds me of Andrew Hill in one of his straight ahead moments. But also maybe Cedar Walton. The interplay with the drummer is great. This is starting to sound familiar but damn I can't think of it. They reprise the intro at the end and I'm getting Moncur vibes but it ain't him as no trombone. Solid (if short) tune. 2. Violin and cello? Abdul Wadud? Billy Bang? Maybe too "jazzy" for Bang but I don't know. I dig the urgency in the playing. No guesses on the horn. Nice song but I'm whiffing again. 3. Big band but with a Rhodes? Reminds me some of the later years Sam Rivers big bands? But he didn't typically have any keys right? And I'm not sure he ever played or led a band with a Rhodes. Loving the drummer. Love when a band is loose but also tight like this. Whoever is leader was adept for this session. Digging the bassist more and more as the tune goes on. 4. No idea but I've liked all four songs so far. No keys on this one. Super crisp rhythm section. Sax definitely has a style. Ok maybe this is Rivers? But again it's not necessarily how he played, at least in my basic understanding. 5. It's either a Mingus band or a band playing/inspired by a Mingus tune. Excellent. 6. Sounds really modern, almost in the r&b jazz sphere. Like, some unseemly producer could have made this a smooth jazz hit. Hmmm...it reminds me of that Shorter album from the 90s, High Life (which I enjoy!) I'm not sure it's Shorter, so did Hutch ever do an album like this? 7. Pianist is on fire. Like Bud but I don't think it's him. Corea? There's no way. 8. Joe Henderson comes to mind. 9. I'm stumped on this one. Great tune. There seems to be a similarity of styles throughout this bft, and I have to say I dig it. The rhythm section sort of stopping and going behind the sax is an interesting element. 10. Somewhere over the rainbow? Ben Webster? 11. I've heard this before I think, but no guesses. Love a vibes ballad. Ok if I have to guess - Bobby H. 12. Three straight ballads to close out! Nice. Love the bass in the intro. I don't know many bass/piano duos off the top of my head. Haden on bass? Great set all around. Thanks for the bft Randy!

1. Sounds like a familiar song but I'm drawing a blank. Was this recorded in the 80s? It's got a sentimentality to it. 2. Classic hard bop. Maybe from the 70s? I hear some Tolliver and Hubbard in that trumpet. Clean tone on the sax but I can't make them out. Pianist vocalizes it sounds like. I'm totally missing this one but it's a good tune. 3. I really start digging it more after the intro. Drummer is crisp. Khan Jamal on vibes? If so would it be Byard Lancaster on sax? I'm probably way off there. Regardless, excellent song. 4. A standard I recognize but can't name. OP on keys? 5. I dig the style but hate the way they were recorded. Everyone on max volume. At least it sounds that way on this Bluetooth speaker I'm using. Could be South African jazz? 6. What style is this? I want to say Gypsy but that sounds wrong. Anyway, clarinet is well played. No guesses. 7. Good tune. Probably a big time trumpet player but no guesses. 8. Heavy duty. From the 70s maybe? Love this song as well. Yeah this is definitely one I would want to pick up. 9. Disco inflected jazz. These theatrical style vocals are always difficult for me to get into. No idea who this is. 10. Better vocal style to my ears. The scatting was top notch. She could carry this solo but the music behind her is good. Biddly Diddly Doo baby. 11. Ok, blues jazz. I like the variety of styles in this bft. Sounds like it's from the 50s. Or a 50s style recorded in the early 60s. It's going to be awesome when I'm totally wrong on all that. I'm not sure who the trumpet player is but I suspect they're the leader. 12. Sound like a modern noire style. Got some funk to it. A bit of sentimentality too like the first track. Hate I can't make more guesses here! It's possible. After looking it over I think this was a DJ or radio LP. Boogaloo-ish track Blind Man Blind Man is almost unplayable. Glad I got this for el cheapo. Would definitely upgrade this bc the music is worth it.

Recent purchase on LP in part inspired by the recent Clark Terry thread. Great music. I like this way more than I thought I would. Only bad thing is the pressing leans heavy into snaps and crackles. Was this common with Mainstream LPs by chance? I don't have any other Mainstream records, just CDs so just wondering if this is somewhat of a known factor with their vinyl.

Did they publish which ones they're going to reissue? Clifford Jordan's Night of the Mark VII is a great album I have on a 32 Jazz CD. Would consider an upgrade if the SQ is improved enough bc I like this record.

1. Nice, swinging song. Reminds me of some older Gerry Mulligan but I think it's a newer recording....maybe. The drummer betrays a more classic style. Is the bari player the leader? Tenor sounds really good. 2. Ok, I just played another version of this tune the other day and Ive already forgotten the song name. Someone will guess it immediately. This is live obviously and the tenor opens very well. Good song but no guesses. Sounds like a group of players that are familiar though. 3. Not guessing this one either. I enjoy it though. The guitarist is in full control. The singer's style is reminiscent of some of the Braxton albums with vocals. I suspect this song won't be very popular here. It seems to deconstruct more and more as it goes on. 4. Trombone on fire for the opener here. Tone reminds me of Curtis Fuller a bit. 5. Ride cymbal coming through loud and clear. Drummer and pianist are really sympatico and it's nice to hear. No guesses. 6. Sounds like a banjo here. Not sure I know any jazz banjo player. 7. No ideas here either 8. Maybe Sam Jones on cello? 9. Another familiar tune. Don't know what it is about jazz but I can rarely remember song titles. Not a problem with other genres, go figure. Anyway, bluesy piano tune that I enjoy. No guesses. 10. Beautiful tenor playing. Trombone player is no slouch. Excellent tune. Dickenson and Hawkins? 11. Love the intro. Never heard this tune before. Very nice. McPartland? 12. Live and classical, and again I can't name this familiar tune. McLaughlin? 13. Piano heavy BFT. Great playing but no guesses. 14. Not sure of who this is either. Sounds like two alto saxes? Bass solo is good, and a good groove over the whole thing. 15. Piano intro again nails it. Good song! No ideas here though.
