Seriously getting spoiled by this release. Who else plays like this? I get some of it from Ornette's Golden Circle and Henderson at the VV...Rivers' Streams. Have also heard it with Blythe's trio on Spirits in the Field...but it really isn't super common...or I'm looking in the wrong places? I listened to some Coltrane after this record and found myself thinking they'd have been better off without Tyner () which has never crossed my mind before (I think it was India & Chim Chim Cheree - for whatever reason his playing just wasn't fitting where Elvin, Jimmy & Trane were going).

Very cool that you got to see him play live. I'm really digging this album.

Yeah, their physical shop isn't too far from me. Parking around there isn't ideal though. Still, good experiences to back up the rec of purchasing online from them.

I was able to find one of those Italian Blue Note pressings of Happenings not too long ago. Good pressing, very heavy vinyl. They don't seem to be over-valued like a lot of other BNs right now so if you come across them for a reasonable price, they're a good option.

My listening after the Rollins in Holland set from last night to this morning.

It's early in the week, but Three Little Words from the Rollins in Holland Resonance set might be the best song I'll be hearing all year - but definitely for this week.

Indeed. I just got the LP set of this release and that song got me (back) out of my chair and standing in amazement and for real LOL'ing at the end. Speed/edit issues aside, the Arnhem performance is now essential for me. Ridiculously good, and was continually blowing my mind. I'd recommend this to anyone. SQ was about what I expected but the vinyl quality was exceptional. And the liners, esp those by Aidan Levy (who has a forthcoming bio coming out on Sonny - will definitely be picking this up) were a great read.

Man, I need to listen to those VV sessions again. I thought Elvin was totally subdued and rather generic in a way, since that didnt really seem his style by those years.

Cover here - and I was wrong on the performance year, confused it with the CD release date (sorry about that - given that Art died in '82 an '83 performance was out of the question): And I forgot that Gumina played the polychord organ on this one. Adds a different sound to the performance. Also, I think reviews on this one are mixed, but I find it enjoyable too - this time from the 80s for real: From '82 with Cables, Farrell, Tony Dumas & John Dentz. The CD sounds just OK to me but I can't criticize the playing. One more to add, this one with Zoot Sims from '81:

I have a CD called I'll Remember April, Live at Foothills College from '83 with Fred Atwood, Jimmie Smith and Tommy Gumina that I think is really good. 4 tracks, 3 of which are standards. Didnt see it on YT, but if you find it give it a whirl.

Yeah, that's nice. Got a noir feel to it. I've never dipped into that album but will have to. The ensemble playing is right on point.
