  1. For NYE, we are planning to go see a local favorite Joe Maher with B3 legend Bill Heid (though I think he will be playing piano only) and Steve Novosel on bass at the Chart House in Alexandria VA. No cover!
  2. bought a nused br copy-looking forward to seeing this.
  3. There's great music here but the packaging was terrible, IMO. Book fell apart and I put all the discs in jewel cases to keep them from getting scratched.
  4. Last night was Chucho Valdez and his tribute to Irakere. Words fail me. A brilliant performance and I don't use that word very often. If you get a chance to see this gig, don't miss it.
  5. I think he does a fine job with the Cookers and I like his work on the Dexter mosaic set even if his solos are a bit too long. A very nice gentleman as well. I hope his health is ok.
  6. RIP to a great artist. I treasure the performances I saw.
  7. Love the Quincy set. On the fence about the Ellington box. I have so much of his music already!

Sorry to read this. I spoke with him briefly at a gig in DC a few years ago. He was extremely pleasant and very down to earth. And his percussion work!!
  9. Yep, great transaction!!
  10. pm on Larry Young - Mothership (BMG bar code) - $9 , V.S.O.P. - The Quintet - $3
  11. Good read. I hope he does some DC dates http://jazztimes.com/articles/168782-stanley-cowell-never-too-late
  12. He must have looked at the 30 Trips pricing.
  13. Listened to the first two discs. His piano is clearer here. The Telarc twofers from his 60s and early 70s releases are all worth picking up as well.
  14. The surround mix of New Favorite is a favorite.
  15. Here's my wrap up review with details: http://www.freep.com/story/entertainment/arts/mark-stryker/2015/09/07/detroit-jazz-fest-wrap-carter-metheny-and-more-highlights/71842750/ thanks!
  16. short but thoughtful interview-thanks! How were his performances?
  17. Don't overlook his work with the Heath Brothers though not all is on cd I believe.
  18. My blu ray arrived yesterday and I had time to watch it. Overall, I liked it very much. I chose the DTS option in 5.1 though I had hoped a 7.1 might be available. The sound is good if a bit front channels centric. Separation of the instruments is good and all players are clear though I found Pat's guitar a bit down in the mix on some selections. The video is good if somewhat dark. I'm not sure I would give it top marks for video quality but it is certainly sufficient. The musicianship is superb and took me back to the show I saw last fall. Overall, I have no hesitation in recommending this blu-ray. CAVEAT: I could not pay total attention as life was intruding i.e. wife talking, cell ringing. I'll take another look at it when I can totally concentrate.
  19. Sunshine Daydream is sold. All others still available AND take $2 off everything!
