Not having too large a collection devoted to either, I too prefer the symphonic works, I would side with piano concertos. One example is a recent purchase of the Murray Perahia/Mozart Piano Concertos. Great stuff.
Is it me or has Netflix selection of quality movies shrunk? I was a member a few years back and cancelled my membership when it became apparent that I didn't have the time to watch the movies to meet the monthly membership. I seem to remember though that Netfix had a pretty impressive selection. Well fast forward to yesterday when I opted to rejoin after recently purchasing a smart tv. After looking through the catalogue I found a great number of tiles not available especially when it comes to classic movies. There were a large number of movies available from the past few years but mainly of little or no interest. Is it me or has the quality of movies seriously eroded? Citing a specific example I believe I saw only 1 or 2 Alfred Hitchcock titles. None of the usual suspects one would expect.
Very sad to hear of his passing. Known as a comedic actor he could take on the serious roles as well. A movie I've enjoyed was with Robert De Niro called "Awakenings".
Although I met only briefly with him, Kenny Barron seemed to be a very nice guy. Mark Feldman who runs Reservoir Records and recorded a couple of Kenny's albums assured me Kenny is a very nice guy.
I had the good fortune to have listened to 3/4 of the Steely Dan retrospective 1972 - 1980 box set Saturday night on the way back to New York. That must have been one of my shortest rides back to NY since I moved to Maine 3 months ago. Great music. I couldn't help singing along. I guess I have to bring along "Two Against Nature" for the ride back? I also have to make a point of picking up the individual Fagan solo releases. "The Nightfly Trilogy" discs seem to be a bit out of my price range right now. I think I still own "The Nightfly" album on cassette? Anyways, great to come across this thread and see so much love for the Dan out there.
Any thoughts on this session? I've had this release in my hands a number of times recently only to deposit it back in the bin. I already own a good number of Tommy's later dates in which I great enjoyment from hearing. Is this worth adding to the collection?
I had the opportunity to hear a track off this upcoming release the other day and it definitely sounds like something I'm interested in hearing. Release date is June 3, I believe. From all accounts this is first time in over 30 years the guys have recorded together. Heads up fellas.
The George Burton Group with Tim Warfield and Terrell Stafford is smoking tonight. Stafford's playing is unbelievable. The guy could blow the roof off the joint if he wanted to. http://www.smallsjazzclub.com/indexnew.cfm?itemCategory=43179&siteid=272&priorId=0&banner=a
I really enjoyed the first volume of the Living Stereo releases. Sorry to hear Volume 2 doesn't meet up with expectations. I may put that set on hold for now and perhaps opt for Volume 1 of the Mercury Living Presence box set instead. Any thoughts here?
