  1. Disc 2 Some great music on this collection!
  2. Happy Birthday, John! Here's hoping you have a great day my friend.
  3. Kenny put on a fine show in front of an audience of 100 people last night. I was quite surprised by the large number in attendence being there was very little publicity AFAIK and the fact the town is quite small. The town however does thrive during the winter season because of it's ski resorts. Back to Kenny. I don't how old Kenny is these days? But being there up in years certainly hasn't had much effect on his playing. He was great to watch especially from my aisle seat which was just to the left of Kenny, so I could actually see him perform. Also worth mentioning, there was a post concert reception next door with free champagne which was different. Kenny was there in a private room in back and I was able to slip back with the help of an industry friend who've I've managed to develope a friendship over the past year or so and got to chat briefly with Kenny and had him sign my cd. Definitely a great time was had.
  4. Tonight I'll be seeing Kenny Barron perform solo at a place called the Doctorow Center For the Arts in Hunter, New York. Time 8 PM. Can't wait!
  5. Happy Birthday, TD!
  6. No kidding. If you're like me who didn't come around to Parker early on, you can't do wrong at this price!
  7. Fine work with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the John Fedchock New York Big Band, too. I'm familar as well with his work on Fedchock's Big Band releases on the Reservoir label. They're definitely worth checking out.
  8. Can you imagine spending your New Year's Eve listening to that shit?
  9. For $130 you certainly can't go wrong with both.
  10. I remember growing up, my mom was a big fan. His television show was always on in our house. R.I.P. Andy.
  11. Don't have either. Which would be the best way to proceed?
  12. I've been listening to his album "Stride" and really enjoying it. Any other fans of his work? I realise his main gig is in Jeremy Pelt's band.
  13. I've never really had many issues with Amazon or Amazon Marketplace. Obviously some of the sellers are a little slower getting items shipped to you than others. Movie Mars springs to mind. Those guys are slow! Fortunately, most times anything I've ordered arrives on my doorstep in a week.
  14. Ok, I'm not going to compare these live dates to the Blackhawk sessions. Still pretty good stuff though, especially if you're a big fan of Shelly Manne as I am. I'm glad I finally caved in after many years and got these. Some outstanding playing here by Kamuca.
  15. The Wess/Coles date sounds like an interesting one plus Kenny Barron to boot.
  16. My first thought when I read the thread title was that it was the dj. Same here although I remember when he worked at WABC/770 in New York. What do I know?
  17. Happy Birthday, Dave!
  18. That's pretty much where I'm at, too. Early on, it seemed like he was part of a back-to-basics movement in country. Now however, country is...well I don't know what the fuck it is. Dead silence is a hell of alot more appealing.
  19. Sorry for the delayed response, Bertrand. The show features music on the many sessions Joe is featured on. Hope you had the opportunity to listen in?
  20. WKCR, New York 2 PM - 7 PM eastern time zone
  21. Happy Birthday, Shawn!
  22. I had the good fortune recently to have picked up this release from a fellow board member. It's been on my wish list for quite some time, but never pulled the trigger. Gotta say this is a real nice session. Besides Shelly, Conte Candoli is on trumpet, Richie Kamuca on tenor, Russ Freeman on piano and Chuck Berghofer on bass. It was recorded in '61. The playing by all is quite good especially Kamuca and Freeman. I've listened to this several times the past few days and really glad to have this added to the Shelly Manne collection. An underrated date, IMO. A little gem. What say others? Any love for this recording? If you haven't played it in quite some time, dig it out and post your impressions later.
  23. WWOZ New Orleans the past 3 hours. Kind of forgotten what a cool station this is.
