  1. Marcel--can you post the Amazon link? I can't seem to find it... is it on an Amazon Europe site? Edit: OK, I do see it up for pre-order on Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Treasury-shows-Vol-17-2CD/dp/B00H317O8K/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1386451066&sr=1-1&keywords=ellington+treasury+17
  2. Is this available anywhere besides Storyville yet?
  3. I was just listening a little while ago to Sonny Rollins LIVE IN LONDON V. 3, on which Tracey plays. Sorry to hear of this.
  4. Note the playlist for today's "Just You and Me": http://indianapublicmedia.org/justyouandme/2013-12-02/
  5. Why, Artie Shaw, of course! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhZR5MSuRUo I seem to recall reading somewhere that Artie himself was very pleased with this particular recording.
  6. Thanks, Medjuck... I was pretty jazzed to see that, actually.
  7. Thanks for the heads-up. I don't see it on Amazon US yet, but here's the Storyville link: http://www.storyvillerecords.com/products/treasury-shows-vol-17-9039017
  8. Saw this discussion on the Coltrane listserv and will check my copy tonight.
  9. Up in remembrance... I'll be revisiting these sides and the Mosaic set as well. I have to confess that I'm not as up on post-1970 CH as I should be... any recommendations? http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/journey-chico-hamilton-1960s/
  10. His publicist reports that he has passed away at the age of 92.
  11. My thought exactly...something that would include all of the reviews from every edition. I'd be willing to pay decent money for something like that, even though I'm no fan of the e-book format. In the case of something like Penguin, though, it would make a lot of sense.
  12. The Stone Roses, "Fools Gold," from this past August in Tokyo at Sonicmania. Here's a performance of it from around the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZiQJu2f8OQ Ian Brown's ability to sing in tune hit-or-miss as always, but John Squire (guitarist)--my God! Not to mention the Reni/Mani rhythm section... they've made this into an even more epic jam than it was in its original version.
  13. Cheers, my friend, cheers!
  14. Fantastic ending to the Celtics-Heat game last night.
  15. That would seem to be a very logical conclusion.
  16. Up to Lexington, 125...
  17. Fascinating...thanks for posting that, Larry. DJA's post is sending me back to the EARLY ELLINGTON set today.
  18. The comedy of errors changed casts last night. The Cards' Game 1 infield pop-up "you got it, right?... I don't got it" miscue reminded me of a similar Angels mishap in Game 1 of the 2009 ALCS: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=7060605&game_pk=263167
  19. Here's a recent, new Night Lights program devoted to the recordings that Stan Getz made in the last several years of his life: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/late-autumn-stan-getz-198791/ Wish I'd had enough time to work in a track from the album he did with Helen Merrill as well...
  20. Happy birthday, my friend!
  21. We recently re-aired "Portrait of Little Jazz," and it remains archived for online listening: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/portrait-jazz-roy-eldridge/
  22. Birthday greetings from Bloomington!
  23. I'll second Joe's rec for the songbook albums.
