  1. Green and Stitt are together on a Prestige date from 1965 entitled "POW". It's a nice session and Stitt and Green are a good pairing. My copy of this is on Roulette for some reason. Good luck finding "My Main Man", well worth seeking out.
  2. I have a new, sealed copy of this 2cd set. $16.00 airmail to the US, (payment via Paypal). £10.00 to the UK. PM me if interested.
  3. I have a spare copy of Sacha Distel's "Jazz Guitarist", new and still sealed. $16.00 inc airmail post to the US. PM me if interested.
  4. Roland Kirk leaning on the counter and listening to recordings by New Orleans clarinet players in Dobells Record shop in London in the 60s.
  5. J J Johnson and Nat Adderley; Chain Reaction Bill McHenry; Graphic Sacha Distel; Jazz Guitarist Elmo Hope; Sounds From Rikers Island Cannonball Adderley; Julian Cannonball Adderley Sonny Stitt; New York Jazz Lee Morgan; The Cooker
  6. I thought that things were looking up at Verve following some decent reissues lately. But I see there's no real change.
  7. Paul is right, this album gives the recording date as April 1950 in Chicago(?). With Hope are Mary Hope(p), Billy Davis(g), Ray Coulter(bass) and Billy Hope(d).
  8. American bacon, you must be kidding, You can't beat a decently cured British bacon.

    Pisces??

QUOTE (brownie @ Jul 26 2003, 06:22 AM) I agree, I still have most of my King issues. I still recall the excitement when I got those and played them for the first time.

    Pisces??

I still have my King Records copy of "Pisces". The track order is Side 1 United/Ping Pong/Pisces Side 2 Uptight/Blue Ching/It's a Long Way Down
  11. I've never had a McGriddle, subliminal or otherwise.
  12. Early British boppers. I used to have hair like this.
  13. Lynn Hope, see the Offering and Looking For Forum-the poriginal turbanator.
  14. If there's additional materail I'll upgrade. I still have loads of vinyl that I'm happy to keep also.
  15. I have the Saxophonograph lp with 1950 version of "Tenderley" on it. Entertaining stuff. The original turbanator maybe.
  16. John, Lord just says c.1963.
  17. I hope it's easier to find in the UK than the 2002 edition.
  18. Let's hear it for Richie. I don't have a lot of his later recordings but I do have a quartet album on the Jazzz label (I think this one went on to Concord) with Mundell Lowe. It's a real cracker and would certainly be among my desert island choices. Some beautifully assured playing and the guitarist is just right.
  19. First off, thanks Dan for sharing this with Gary and thanks Gary for passing a copy on to me. I've always thought of my self as a bit of an organ man but I'm pretty sure I don't have any Kynard in my collection so this album is especially welcome. A good dose of gospel funk with a touch of r&b thrown in from Scott, all good time foot patting stuff which deserves to heard. Scott has an interesting discography and I guess he can do just about anything on his horns. I followed up this one with "Clifford Scott Plays The Big Ones", also on PJ. Coarser and more pop oriented than this one but I love his sound on tenor, not quite so sure about his Bostic influenced tone on alto thought. It's a real shame that the PJ organ albums have faired badly in the reissue stakes. There must be room for a collection of at least some of this PJ material, perhaps as Mosaic Select. I had a look at Lord to check the recording date. I see he gives Ray Crawford as the guitarist and Leroy Henderson on drums and adds Ronnell Bright as the pianist on "I'll Fly Away". Thanks again Dan and Gary, this one will get quite a few plays.

    Oct conns?

I'll definitely get the Hill and the Rivers. As for the rest, do I want to exchange my lps for the cds? I've always thought the Mobley date a big disappointment.
  21. The Silver Trio for me. My vinyl isn't that good. Maybe "Indestructible", I'll have to check out my lp. I have the others on cd. Upgrading isn't that important to me unless additional tracks have been added.
  22. As far as I know it's a straight reissue of the US issue.
  23. I've got to put "Kirk's Work" at the top of my list. It was the first Kirk I heard and I was totally floored by it. Still sounds good today. Not sure about discs 2 and three so I'll pass on them.
  24. Sorry Brad, I don't have this one, in fact I don't have very much late Stitt. I'm not sure why, especially as I saw Stitt late in his life when he toured here (UK) briefly with Red Holloway. He didn't look to well but he played beautifully.
  25. What a shame Evan, I'm sorry you didn't like it. It's one of my all time favourites, a spine tingler from the off. I guess in the end one mans meat is anothers poison. But Big Wheel has it about right-you have to have a liking and a feeling for post bop but this one is pretty easy on the ear imo, strong melodies, plenty of colour. Again like Big Wheel my tastes are pretty wide so I'd say give it another try.
