  1. I enjoy everything you write, be it related to music, sports, politics... We are indeed privileged to have you here with us. Happy Birthday!
  2. Sweet baby Coda! I guess Sly didn't want to descend from his throne to join in the pic, eh.. Thanks everybody for the kind thoughts... (Chuck, how long did it take you to dig through that thread and find that picture! ) I'm just spending a quiet evening alone tonight. It's been a difficult couple of weeks for reasons I'll not go into at the moment. Just know that this place has been a nice little refuge for me, and I appreciate every one of you, even in the midst of disagreements about sometimes insignificant things in the grand scheme of life. Ghost, hopefully we'll see the Big O in Indy/Bloomington very soon! And even if not, we all still need to get together again some Saturday! Thanks again everybody! Rachel.
  3. What about your eyes and his big fat effin' head? Just seems like a "Mr. Obvious" moment. Hm. Well, I have a neighbor looks like he's a potential thug. Should I call the police now? If you don't know about the relationship of steroid use to cranial size increase, then you don't have any business posting on this threa.. oh nevermind. Your post speaks for itself. Does it. Hm. Seems you assailed me because of a lack of being able to see with my eyes. I'm thinking you might want to do a study on the mechanics of hitting a baseball....or on assuming someone is guilty just because he looks like he could commit a crime Just sayin'. Silliest. post. ever. My post referred to your statement that it would take more than an ex girlfriend to prove to you that Bonds had used steroids. I was not addressing whether or not said steroid use would improve his batting. I'll leave that to others in the thread. (why I need to restate that for you when it's clearly quoted in my post is, well, just par for the course it seems with you...but anyway) My reference to your eyes is to say how can anybody with two eyes and a brain not see how his cranial circumference has enlarged. That does not happen naturally. That is a standard by product of steroid use. Maybe you should study anatomy and physiology.

  6. I want that on a T-shirt!!
  7. Ok... Jason Kidd. Black? or White? So we better ask the 'anonymous former referee'? Seriously...
  8. The study seems, to me, to be flawed if they rely on box scores for their data. Box scores do not specify which referee makes each call. How did they come to their conclusion if they cannot determine which ref makes the call? And not to be flippant, but what about bi-racial players? Or non calls? I agree with Noj. The bias is toward whatever player is the media darling. One just needs to have watched Michael Jordan play to know that. (especially in person--geez he always looked incredulous that he would be called for a foul...)
  9. One of the guys who used to play hoops with Isiah Thomas on Sunday mornings at the elementary school is a cousin to Robert Davi, the character actor. and even more obscure, speaking of Lynyrd Skynyrd, my best friend's sister-in-law is Gary Rossington's cousin..
  10. I sat next to Rob Reiner and his son at a Pacer/Detroit playoff game. Very cool guy. I used to watch some guy friends play hoops with Isiah Thomas on Sunday mornings at a local elementary school gym. About 20 years ago I was in Lexington, Kentucky to watch the Marion Giants play Kentucky's basketball state champs. We ran into Elizabeth Taylor and George Hamilton who were staying at the same hotel; they were in town for the opening of horse racing season.
  11. Happy Birthday Joe!!!
  12. Happy Belated Birthday to my Jazz Kitchen Friend. It sounds like you had a great week-end. Thanks for being so generous with your photographs-- it's always a real treat to see each addition to your collection. (Hope you got a good shot of Pharez Whitted!)
  13. Yes, Ralph LaLama was there, sitting next to Gary Smulyan (who is just slightly taller than his sax... ) The whole sax section was superb.
  14. It was such a great show! I was in *brass heaven*! I can't begin to explain how beautiful the music was, even at sound check. It gave me chills! It was truly a great experience to see Derrick Gardner play in front of so many of his students--I loved watching them respond to his music; such youthful energy and creativity. You can tell that he is loved and respected by his students. Michael Weiss is the bomb--he swung his ass off! Dinner was such a treat; I really enjoyed hearing about his Indiana days and his history of playing with Pookie Johnson and Slide Hampton. Now I have to hear his quintet!! Thanks again, Michael, for extending the invitation and for joining us for dinner. It was great fun to experience what to you was probably a mostly mundane, routine sound check; I loved every minute of it.
  15. Happy Birthday Erik! Here's to lots of cake!
  16. Happy Belated Birthday to the King!! Hope it was fun.
  17. For real. "Jack's gone rogue.." that's shocking...
  18. Happy Birthday Evan! (I'm at work now; otherwise I would have posted a pic of a scantily clad brunette for you...)
  19. Used to be: Now it's: Both were photographed by my niece, Rebekah.
  20. I was at that show in the second row somewhere. I was having conversations too, but they were of the whispered "man, that's some bad shit" variety. Usually, nobody minds those. Jim and I were in the back row, where all the commotion was. Rachel was there, too - in the front row. Yeah, I didn't hear the commotion in the back; maybe it was because the guy sitting next to me, down front and center, was singing at the top of his lungs right along with the band to "First Circle". This was after he got the clapping intro *all* messed up, clapping as loud and as hard as possible. At that moment I longed for a not-so-great seat.
  21. Thanks, Chuck, for posting this. Give Ann my thanks, also!
  22. That sounds fabulous!! Could you post the recipe?
  23. It was a fabulous show! The two trombones sounded beautiful together! I loved the ballad that Paul did in the first set. The KC folks are in for a treat Monday night. I thought all of the players were outstanding, especially the piano player!! It was such a treat to not only get to meet Paul but to also experience his music in a live setting like that. Have fun in KC tomorrow night!
  24. So.... I guess no lighter then?
