  1. Teda-Tibesti Instrumentale Muziek [Chad] (Opnamen van Afrikaanse Muziek)
  2. Bummer. 91 is a heck of a run indeed.
  3. Anthologie de la Musique du Tchad, LP 2, Maya-Kebbi Occidental (Ocora)
  4. Sad news. He was a fascinating artist. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/robert-northern-who-as-brother-ah-became-a-synthesizer-of-sounds-dies-at-86/2020/06/01/57aa7e34-a415-11ea-bb20-ebf0921f3bbd_story.html
  5. he did; still, pretty obscure by most standards...
  6. He was definitely into cars and a fan of auto racing. That record is awesome. Apparently he toured the concept to museums, with a film and mobile sound extravaganza. Wild. Of course Miles was into fancy cars and driving fast; Prince Lasha was, too, and I'm sure there are others.
  7. same here. Donated most of it to bail funds.
  8. nice record under bassist Jay Oliver's name (this is the first private press issue; it was later reissued on Konnex)
  9. Ed Kelly isn't too well-known, but was a Bay Area fixture for many years. Pharoah is the "Friend," obviously.
  10. The label is still active, though, run by Steve Holtje. I guess it's a way to raise money for other projects, licensing things out like that, but I don't understand pushing the same product over and over and over. Free jazz was supposed to be immune to that! Hehe.
  11. he emailed me; it seemed like he had most of the bases covered already, though information about his work in the Bay Area in the late '70s/early '80s is scant. I passed him along to Kirk Heydt, but beyond that couldn't really think of much. Any other ideas?
  12. Ornette is on one cut from Reed's "The Raven," from 2003, which resulted from Reed's earlier work with theater director Robert Wilson, called POEtry.
  13. Great music; wish they'd do something about the cover art. I find it odd that ESP are licensing out titles they recently re-pressed themselves, but whatever. It's also kinda weird that right now we have three new reissues of Porto Novo kicking around: this one, the Japanese CD, and a US vinyl reissue for Record Store Day. It's a great record, one of my favorites, but talk about a diffuse licensing model...
  14. yeah, our upstairs neighbors and my wife and I had dinner in the backyard, just the four of us, on Memorial Day. But that's it. We've all been locked down and hardly go anywhere, so it was pretty safe. Thankfully new infections/hospitalizations are way, way down in NYC and we are hoping that it'll stay that way for a while. I would say masks are about 50%. Clusters tend to be around 5-6 people max in the parks; I wish more would wear masks, but... it's nothing like Lake of the Ozarks or anything, either. People do spread out. They could do more, but it's not outrageous. I think younger people here are pretty much steering clear of their aged parents/grandparents. I dunno, I'm cautiously optimistic but there are always those people who don't heed state and local orders, even around NY. I do worry about tourists from other areas of the country bringing the virus back to the city, which is kinda why I hope that most of the attractions stay closed throughout the summer.
  15. Sonny/Sunny Morgan percussionist (have seen it spelled both ways).
  16. Right, was just referring to Thurston's list. Would love to hear that solo cassette! Very rare indeed. Only Marion Brown original I've never been able to track down a copy of is Le Temps Fou. Certainly my white whale.
  17. cosign on the Jothan Callins as well, very nice album. Kloss might not be as well known today, but Prestige was certainly pushing him as a "young lion" back in the 1960s. Excellent player.
  18. Just the Miles; only WR album I have is Live in Tokyo. Also the first Return To Forever on German ECM... and the Coryell stuff. And Prime Time, as well as a lot of European and Japanese jazz-rock I don't see represented here...
  19. Damn, RIP.
  20. Have this Blue Parrot LP as well, it's quite stunning.
  21. looks like the IASW set is gone, unless they're expecting to get more. Was waiting to see how the OTC box turned out before plunging. Oh well!
  22. I've never owned nor heard those Blackwell CDs, will have to seek 'em out.
  23. looking for it on LP too, rare one indeed.
  24. right. The Pullen/Graves duos should be out on CD pretty soon I think -- they're receiving a legitimate reissue treatment. I think the only ones that never made it to a proper CD reissue at this point are the Colbeck, Watts, and Marion Brown (oddly). The Colbeck was supposed to come out some years ago but that reissue program collapsed; Concord is dithering with the Savoy catalog and I don't know whether anyone has tried licensing the Watts recently (I know there were attempts years ago).
