  1. Tal Farlow - The Return of.../1969 - (Prestige)
  2. OUCH!!! What a pisser! Get well soon, Joe. Yuck. Indeed, hope is here for a speedy recovery.
  3. Happy Belated Birthday Conn!
  4. Happy Birthday, and glad to have you here.
  5. Wish I could have seen that. However, not a bad day yesterday in Austin: Death, the Jesus Lizard, Melt-Banana, the Sword, Times New Viking, Shonen Knife... my one day at Fun Fun Fun Fest was pretty nice.
  6. Happy birthday porcy - enjoy some original pressings and fine libations!
  7. I haven't bought anything from him in a while. Guess it's time to do so.
  8. Hey Al, Can I do one in 2010?
  9. You guys are only turning 40?
  10. I've tried emailing Gebers as well - never heard back, though I do get new FMP releases for review. I understand that he is producing those as well, though. Cadence sells Jazzwerkstatt titles in the US.
  11. Well, it's being viewed as a limited-edition art multiple that, while it contains music as part of the experience, is also a "work of art." Some of Oxley's artwork is represented on the cover, which I believe is going to be hand-assembled. Other than that, I don't think working with Cecil or Oxley comes cheap these days...
  12. I'll do it tomorrow.
  13. Well... the artists held the rights to the earlier FMP recordings, as I understand it, so Brotzmann & Schlippenbach probably just told Corbett to go ahead. A lot of more recent reissues were leased/sold to Jazzwerkstatt Germany, so the catalog is kind of flung about. Now that Jost is back in control (or whatever) of the label, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
  14. Yup. Welcome, by the way. Stick around - we're not all snarky!
  15. Man, that is a tough line of thought but I don't disagree with you. Shepp's change of approach - as he sees it, back to the way he played before meeting Cecil - might take quite a bit of unpacking, and that Sackville LP is terrible. It's really hard because, after a point and for some people, playing 'free' or non-changes-based open music can eventually box one in or become tiresome. One wants to see what else there is - not everybody is a Bill Dixon, Roscoe Mitchell or Anthony Braxton. Trouble is, we don't want to hear Dewey or Archie play "in the pocket," even though at times both were good at it. The blues - and maybe Allen can speak to this - is surely at the heart of Dewey's playing, but again, that isn't everything in this music.
  16. I'd be interested to know what he's up to these days. Hope he's doing well. Conflict is a very nice LP - well, both of his Contemporary recs are highlights.
  17. Thornton's daughter (I think) has his archives and tapes, and did not want them to be used, but otherwise gave Corbett/UMS carte blanche to do what they wished. The reissue was taken from three sealed copies as well as a tape of part of the session(s) that McPhee had in his collection.
  18. Would that we were all so lucky. I seem to turn my girlfriends onto, then off of, the very same music.
  19. I believe she recorded at least one folk LP for Verve Forecast (or Verve Folkways). Dunno otherwise. She's also on this Victor LP. In case you were wondering what happened to Jaime Faunt, he's on it too. Edit again: here is her myspace.
  20. He's great. Welcome, and do stick around.
  21. Well they played together in France too... I think the Bobby Jones who played with Mingus was a little too young in the 70s to have played on some 40s Red Nichols sides, but that's just my guess.
