I've learned a HELL of a lot since being on here. Never thought I'd be mining Chewy for WCJ recommendations or TTK for heavy exotica titles... You know what they say: you can learn a lot from a dummy. [j/k]

Have got all of Mike Westbrook's Derams on vinyl. Like them all - although 'Marching Songs Vol 1 and 2' is perhaps not one to spin when you've got visitors. 'Release' is fairly rare I think. The 'Tyger' on RCA is probably his rarest title. Hope to be checking out his and Kate's 'Village Band' in the next month or so - they're fairly local ! Never seen Tyger before. Looks interesting... though I probably listen to Love Songs the most, my eyes are often peeled for a clean set of Marching Song LPs.

I really wish that label had better QC.

My Westbrook is all on CD - the only of his vinyls I've been able to score is Release, which is a nice one, if not a fanatically-priced LP.

I bought my dad a copy of the RVG when it came out and there were some spots of digital click and flutter. Dunno if that's on previous issues or not.

Indeed. I was listening to Doc at the Radar Station the other night and my girlfriend was like "The B-52s and Devo must have listened to this a lot." I was like, "yes indeed, hon." And the thing is, a lot of those post-punk and new wave bands had come up on the Captain's 60s/70s recordings, too. When he reinvented the Magic Band around 1980, ironically it was along the lines of music he had already had a hand in influencing.

I like what I've heard from him... there's one on Horo (I think) called The Dualities of Man that is pretty interesting. Kent Carter talked a lot about playing in his quartet with Laurence Cook and (IIRC) Claude Bernard.

Multiple Sclerosis. I've been on a late-70s/early-80s Beefheart jag this summer. It's been nice. Not gonna apologize for the man's behavior to others nor say he's the greatest mind since Ellington but shit, I got ears and I do listen...

I have it on LP. Crisis averted.

If there's some classic baritone blowing, I'm in. Taylor/Laurence/Marshall would have been SWEET!

Sounds fine to me; not as much "punch" as the German pressings tho I haven't compared the two on this title.
