  1. Conjurs up a strange image of foxy babes in slinky dresses and geeks discussing deep grooves and 'ears'..
  2. Yep, the Shepp telephone call is on the documentary (the documentary maker also did a separate show about Shepp, also broadcast by BBC).
  3. For anyone who can access BBC IPlayer Radio - here's a link to the Horace Parlan documentary.. Portrait Of Horace Parlan
  4. I have a few like that - 'Dedication Series' twofers.
  5. I guess the modus operandi these days with Mosaics is - once they become available again from backorder, pick them up. There are a few in the current backorder list that I would like to have. Can't be easy for them ! A fascinating box and if it hadn't been for the set I would have probably passed on Mr Threadgill's work. Now in 'running low'.
  6. I am sorry to hear this, he was always a favourite. Will be sure to play some of his music this weekend. BBC radio broadcast a short documentary about him last year, recorded largely in conversation at his care home. He came across with great dignity. RIP.
  7. Yep, that one came out on the Mingus/Roach Debut label. Nice one !
  8. I've still got to pick up the MPS disks and also that Top Of The Gate set. Can't keep up !
  9. Happy Birthday and listening !
  10. Happy Birthday !
  11. So sorry to hear his - may he RIP.
  12. Wow -was it really 2005 that I was last there? Time flies.. In the interim, that Monk/Coltrane LP that Scott told me about has been and gone.
  13. Happy Birthday John - Good listening !
  14. Well, it started out nicely but all of these links cut out and loop back to the start after about 10 minutes. I guess you need to have an account with them as an institution or student to get the full access. Damn !
  15. G.W. P.C. Q.
  16. Some lovely french horn playing and textures on the Miles Davis/Gil Evans albums as well. Section playing, not sure if that counts. Same thing goes for the Junior Collins/Gunther Schuller work on 'Birth of the Cool'.
  17. I used to get stuck behind one in the traffic to work on a regular basis - and this was well within the last 10 years !!! Pretty sure I saw one on the road not too long ago too. You could get deliveries of regular milk, half top, double top, cream, yoghurt and eggs I think from most of these guys. In latter days most were operated by 'Unigate'. Check out the Father Ted 'Milk Float' episode - a classic.
  18. I really should move to Stanford so I can say that, instead of waiting a month or two for the banana boat to dock at Felixstowe..
  19. RIP - Only know him from the Brunswick LP and some tracks he did with Klaus Doldinger but what I've heard, I liked.
  20. Yep. Might even be the very same organ, if they are both CBS !
  21. Needed to grab the Hines and Lunceford before they totally disappear and the half price shipping will at least offset some of the import tax (). Really liked the Rosemary Clooney CBS samples that I've heard as well so I've plumped for that too, although not exactly a fan of ice hockey style organ and celeste. I suspect that this will be a real sleeper gem of a set.
  22. Indeed, thanks for clarifying.
  23. RIP - always thought he was a class act.
  24. Looking at the date of recording, presumably the Jazz Messengers were in town to do a show at the CNE?
