Spot on, I hear you. Linn has been doing the same thing with the LP12. You can buy the basic deck, then add mechanical upgrades such as Cirkus bearing and Keel baseplate and supply/motor upgrades such as Radikal. Each offers very significant benefit to what is, even in basic form, a fine deck. At least the drive belt stays 'as is'.

Never realised that he used to run the Rolling Stones - until Loog-Oldham 'nicked' them. Plus ran the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond - very influential. He also 'lost' Clapton. Good obit in today's Times, albeit with not much mention of the jazz connections.

Hopefully one of our fine Tokyo board members will interject here. Pit Inn in Shinjuku might be worth checking out for live jazz. A bit of a pig to find though (at least it was for me).

Wikipedia now saying he died in NYC on 13th Jan. If that is the case - RIP, a significant musical catalyst/facilitator for sure.
