  1. Happy Birthday Big A !
  2. Just flicking through my copy of the 'Omniverse' tome, which has just arrived. A bigger book than I thought it would be page size wise - looks nicely done. Spinning - Gil Evans 'Out of the Cool' (UK Impulse). These 70s reissues sound fine to my ears, although the vinyl can be on the thin side.
  3. Isn't the 'Earthly Recordings' more of a discography - whereas the 'Omniverse' book is a collection of essays, photos and pictures - about 300 pages total. Some details here - https://www.facebook.com/ArtYardRecords/
  4. Don't forget 'Eternal Spirit' and 'But Not Farewell' on Blue Note either - two excellent BN comeback recordings.
  5. Chico Hamilton 'El Chico' (Speakers Corner). Far superior to the real thing !
  6. I guess I will finally succumb at some stage and get hold of a Naim streamer - as CD transports start getting harder to replace. The thought of putting 4000 or so CDs onto disk leaves me cold though..
  7. You seem to have a thing about vinyl fetishism..
  8. This talk of streamers has piqued my interest. The thought of transferring all those CDs to disk and doing backups leaves me cold though. I see enough of computers in my day job ! I had a unique opportunity last year at one of the UK's best audio specialists to listen to a Naim streamer using FLAC files driving their top of the line Statement amps through some top end speakers. The whole thing must have caused a voltage dip on the national grid ! This was compared with the same set up driven by a fully loaded LP12 Sondeck with dynavector cartridge. Both were absolutely great.
  9. 'Pax' is damn good - you won't be disappointed. Classic mid-60s forward looking Blue Note date..
  10. Never went to the shop but always recall their advert in 'Jazz Journal'. I have a copy of the Hawkins bio and must give it another read. RIP, must have seen him live on at lest one occasion but can't recall the specifics. I don't think it was with George Melly. Yep, I'm in the same category. No excuse really, as I was studying just up the road !
  11. The 'Blue Delight' has always left me a bit underwhelmed but must give it another spin. My copy of the Art Yard book is on its way from Portobello Road. I suspect that once this printing has gone it will become very elusive once more.
  12. Have a good one Noj !
  13. 'Dance With Death' and 'Smokestack' shouldn't be missed.
  14. Wish they would team up again with Mosaic..
  15. The more I look at it, the more I'm of the opinion that this list is BS. Aukland is another overhyped and very overpriced, place. What clown put this list together? Detroit I was able to compare with Toronto about 20 years ago and used to do the drive between them on occasions. At the time it was quite a massive contrast, which must also be the case these days too.
  16. Both places have imploded in the past (Toronto most recently back in 1990-91) after periods of boom ending in recession. Same sort of thing has been going on in London over here. The cynic in me says there is a heck of a lot of money laundering that has been going on !
  17. Vancouver is totally nuts these days - and not enhanced in my opinion with all those high rises that have sprung up downtown. It was a much more liveable city 20 years ago. Having said that, I always enjoy a visit. I hate to say it but both it and Toronto are overdue a property crash !
  18. Seconded - well done and congrats to you both !
  19. Wish I could go - alas too far away and the £/$ would probably just about buy me a couple of DMM Blue Notes. Happy hunting for those who get to go and let us know what you got !
  20. Happy Birthday Mike !
  21. Happy Birthday !
  22. Have a good one John !
