  1. From my recollection (I think the story is in RogerFs Ian Carr discography) that session in Southwark Cathedral was done to raise funds for the embryonic (at the time) Globe project. Sam Wanamaker was a friend of Ian Carr I think. The Argo LP set was a real obscurity that was low profile at time of release - Vocalion did a really good job with the CD reissue.
  2. Have to agree with Lon - if these are in a good 180g pressing, there will be more than a few interested.
  3. The first that comes to mind is this..
  4. Karl Berger & Co. 'Tune In' (Milestone)
  5. I always thought that, from 'Rumproller' onwards. Fortunately was able to catch him in live performance with TS Monk's group, where as per usual he absolutely smoked and was very supportive to the front line. Have never heard his Beehive LPs so will have to check out this set !

i seem to recall that 80s show focussed more on middle of the road stuff such as Sinatra; only caught it once or twice. Alan Dell's 'Big Band Sound' back in the 70s just before Humph was pretty good too. Monday night was jazz night - nice !
  7. Had a listen to this on on Spotify the other day and it is predictably good. Will buy the CDs in due course.

That's interesting John - JRR has never really been the same since Peter Clayton left it, I had a couple of requests played by him back in the day, always amazed that they actually got picked. He was excellent on 'Sounds of Jazz' as well on Sunday late nights. Charles Fox was also outstanding on BBC radio for jazz broadcasting around that period - very authoritive and his shows much valued by me (and wish I'd recorded them). Yes, David Jacobs was the guy with the plummy tones, that's who I was thinking of.
  9. Whenever I see those Trip lps they remind me of the Jazz wasteland which was the mid 1970s when fusion ruled, Blue Note LPs had gone into semi-permanent hibernation and the likes of Xanadu and Muse were just gearing up. I guess the cover art budget didn't extend beyond loan of a photocopier..

No idea but at 99p each I'm tempted to have a punt on these. If nothing else you get the plumby vowels of e.g. Peter Clayton and the not so plumby but amiable Welshness of Dill Jones doing the intros..
  11. Parker Lady P. Virgil
  12. Didn't realised that she had actually lived in London in the mid-1960s - engaged to the UK alto player Peter King around that time, I believe. I remember her mid-70s 'comeback' with recordings for Concord and very regular stints at the Scott club right through the 70s and 80s, although don't think I ever heard her perform there.
  13. That's very sad to hear. A regular visitor over here and to Ronnie Scott's back in the day - RIP.
  14. Belated Happy Birthday !
  15. This should clarify.. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/32520-sam-noto/&page=2
  16. Tavener - used to see him in the supermarket !
  17. Happy Birthday J-Jet !
  18. Good point - I don't recall any reports coming in after that.
  19. Sad news - a great gent and not to be forgotten for his classic Humphrey Lyttelton and Parlophone comedy albums either.
  20. A very fine reissue - these guys seem to be putting in the same attention to detail and quality that International Phonograph are doing with CDs. Intense session - the booklet photo showing couples slow dancing in front of the band must be a set-up.
  21. I have one of these Liberty era lam cover, stereo 'no-ear' pressings of this one somewhere in the racks. Picked up for a snip back in the day at Mole Jazz in their 'Collectors Rack' and in great condition. As I recall, the sonics were extremely good. Will hunt it down..
  22. Second what you guys say above - I have this CD and enjoy it very much as well (Pat Martino even signed my copy ). Byard is particularly good on the first session, I like the way he puts in the occasional very unpredictable interjection to keep things very interesting and imaginative. Good stuff !
  23. Is he/it still MP up there? Albert Steptoe Albert Dailey Albert Tatlock
