  1. It's sat in my racks unplayed for years now so many thanks for the reminder ! I saw Teddy live a few years before he passed, very rare club appearance in NYC. Predictably great. The one time I caught him on the West Coast he had his arm in a sling and couldn't play. Still fronted the band though !
  2. Sue Mr Corbett Spike
  3. My Mosaic catalogue has arrived. Always a pleasure to receive it and always a threat to the state of the old wallet..
  4. Remember buying both volumes in hardback on the spot when I saw them many years ago in Toronto. Other than Ian Carr's fine work, there wasn't much published about Miles up to that point. Devoured both volumes in a weekend !
  5. Reminder to self to get the LP12 re-based in recycled vintage single malt whisky barrels..
  6. Have a good one !
  7. Happy Birthday !
  8. Happy Birthday !
  9. Yep, Borders was just opposite the site of the old Foyles and slightly up. Good for jazz books and periodicals. The one in Bournmouth was nice as well - sadly it went under around the same time.
  10. That's a blast from the past. I'd forgotten about that show !
  11. Nice album John. My copy is a US 2-eye, mono, sounds pretty good, haven't noticed any grittiness. This one isn't on the Mosaic Select, of course.
  12. The place sort of reminded me of that Gringotts Bank in Harry Potter !
  13. Yep, I remember the Kafka-esque queuing and paying system at the old Foyles. Which is by I used to buy most of my books at Dillons (now another branch of Waterstones). I remember that archaic elevator too !
  14. Not to forget that the remnants of Asmans, after it closed, occupied the upstairs at Mole in later years. Saturday afternoons seemed to have (at least when I was there) a regular vintage jazz listening/critique session on the upstairs deck courtesy of 'mouldy figge' regulars. The last time I was there though the Asmans desk was bare and the record deck was bust. Also not forgetting 'All Change Records', next door to Sherlock Holmes's place on Baker St. They sort of morphed into Mole around 1978... There was also that interesting avant-garde jazz shop near Neal St (pretty sure JohnS posted about this a while back), which didn't seem to last that long. Last time I passed the spot where I think it was located it looked to be a top end hairdressing salon. The Camden Town store was my favourite - absolutely packed with good stuff. Jazz & reggae was their thing.
  15. Sad news. Remember seeing her in the Sly Stone lineup at The Hague about 10 years ago. RIP.
  16. I sort of vaguely recognise that picture of the 'later' Dobells but must only have ever gone in there once or twice and never bought anything. Having said that I have a fair number of LPs with Dobells stickers still on them. Mole was more my place, specially as being a student at the establishment in Bloomsbury I could sneak up there for a shuffle in the racks between lectures.
  17. Even Tracey Emin gets mention !
