  1. Kenny Wheeler 'Song For Someone' (Incus)
  2. Graham Collier 'Deep Dark Blue Centre' (Deram stereo)
  3. Not sure on that one, MG.
  4. Nice one ! I really should get hold of that Django (I have a 'partial' of it and it sounds nice). The Stitt is recommended too. Lou Donaldson beckons for me, I think.
  5. Time to buy the Mosaics now before the pound drops against the dollar again after Xmas (or so I hear). We've never had it so good, really. I'll go halves for a condo next to Mosaic HQ..
  6. Got to recommend 'The Pentagon' on East Wind.
  7. I think I recall reading that RVG prepared stampers for Esquire, which were then sent over to Carlo and Peter Newbrook. There's usually the 'Van Gelder' in the run out in all of these. Vinyl quality invariably better than the original Prestige, so they compare well sonically.
  8. How is it Brownie? I keep passing on that one.
  9. Anyone have any thoughts on the extra material that was not on the Art Yard LP? I'm pondering over getting the CDs for this additional stuff. Some of my favourite Ra on the LP. Wasn't the original cover art a sketch of Ra playing what looked like a roller-coaster keyboard?
  10. Good grief ! Nice find indeed - congrats. I once found the Bechet and Herbie Nichols CD boxes in a store for £10-15 each with bent boxes but the books and CDs were fine. Currently spinning 'Curtis Amy Select' CD3.
  11. Yeah, I'd assume that too. Esquires are often beautiful, and rarer than their Prestige counterparts. If Sidewinder were around this week, we could hear from the resident expert on that! Barclay issued quite a number of Prestige albums in the late fifties, early sixties. At the time I thought their covers were a disgrace when compared to the original designs. Still dislike most of them. The US originals looked so much better (and were very hard to find even then). Yes, 'Mobley's Message' did appear in the UK on Esquire. I remember seeing the cover art and it is different to the Prestige but don't have a pic I'm afraid. The Esquire was only in small quantities and is a rare one.
  12. Jeez ! We'll see it this side of Xmas, if we are lucky.
  13. Not at all. The right price is around 10 bucks. Yep, that's what I thought. The cheek !
  14. Is this one rare? Circulus
  15. Don't forget the fabulous material recorded in Paris with Gigi Gryce (quintet) and a big band largely (and clandestinely) put together from the Hampton organisation.
  16. Stan Tracey Big Brass 'Love You Madly' and 'Seven Ages Of Man' (both UK Columbia Lansdowne stereo) Oliver Nelson 'Stolen Moments' (East Wind)
  17. Yes, that a very nice session. The 'Tubbs In NY' originally on a Fontana LP.
  18. Hello Nate - my package has arrived, thank you very much. My ISP is out of action at present but should be back to normal to contribute later next week.
  19. Ted Curson 'Plays Fire Down Below' (Prestige Bergenfield DG mono)
  20. Well said, Reinier. It's quite simply up to us to make sure that our beloved Mosaic stays operating and able to dig out and compile more of the music that we love. Everyone should just think of a world without Mosaic for a minute. Much as I am broke - they'll be getting a wee order from me in the next week or so.
  21. Really sad news, truly sorry to hear this. Will dig out some Mike Osborne on vinyl over the weekend - probably 'Outback', 'Flare Up' and one or two of the Westbrooks. Used to hear him quite a bit on the radio back in the '70s and still remember the shock and concern expressed within the British jazz press when he withdrew from the scene. For many years then he seemed a forgotten, near legendary figure but thankfully in the last few years his great work has started to be appreciated. 'Jackie McLean of British Jazz' indeed.
  22. Damn !! Why don't these guys ever do coupons like these for their European stores? They are fleecing us enough as it is...
  23. William Blake Mike Westbrook Phil Minton
  24. Can't beat the Quadraphonic !
