  1. I have one of the Miles's and one of the JJs. I'll try to check them out over the next couple of days (when I can find them ).
  2. Horace Parlan 'On The Spur Of The Moment' (BN NY USA mono deep groove)
  3. If you think of the low profile even the great Joe Harriott with his ground-breaking 'Free Form' group had over here in the 1960s, it's not suprising - sadly - that Gaynair got lost in the noise. Lots of reports of him doing regional gigs over the country around that time though.
  4. Yep. 'Marine Intrusion' it was. All Bay Area musicians, I believe.
  5. Clifford - don't hesitate ! I picked my copy up from a shop in Stuttgart (indeed Aggie/Erik from this board met up with me at the shop ). The owner of the shop told me at the time that he'd got a whole job-lot of LPs from Barbara Wojirsh, esteemed cover art designer at ECM. I think this LP was one of the few left over from that batch. She sold up her vinyl lock, stock and barrel before emigrating, apparently.
  6. No, all were issued after the takeover by Liberty. So non of these were pressed at Plastylite. However, Liberty still used NY labels for these titles (except for the Gigolo which was issued much later). Apparantly the labels were already printed, or perhaps they used "blank" (NY) stock labels. For some reissues of the early titles Liberty even used old labels, with the Lexington St. or 47 W 63rd St. address. Non of these have ears, though. Yep - and they have 'RVG' in the runout (as distinct from 'Van Gelder') and often have laminated sleeves with 47W63rd addresses, just to confuse matters further !
  7. So I'm listening to Love, Love for the first time and digging it! Definitely recommended to fans of the Mwandishi band, electric Miles and early Weather Report. The groove on side 1 could go on forever. Guy How is the sound quality of the CD? Wasn't there some word of master tape problems? The LP of this has been a big favourite of mine and as you say, side 1 packs a heck of a groove. 'Polarisation' is just as good - albeit much more introspective in style.
  8. Sounds like an early Liberty-era pressing. The original of this one definitely has the ear. I have a mono one of those though and it sounds GREAT !
  9. By becoming Canadian, one can achieve this !
  10. 'Horace Silver Quintet Vol 3' BLP 5058 (10" BN Lexington DG)
  11. The Horace trios were on BLP 5018 and BLP 5034 (Vols 1 and 2 respectively), which explains why the Quintet 10"s are labelled Vols 3 and 4.
  12. I've got copies of the original 10" Lex BLP 5058 and 5062 LPs (5062 signed by Horace). Track order is: 5058: Side 1: 1. Room 608 2. Creepin' In Side 2: 1. Doodlin' 2. Stop Time 5062: Side 1: 1. Hippy 2. The Preacher Side 2: 1. Hankerin' 2. To Whom It May Concern
  13. 'Poetry and Jazz In Concert 250' (Argo 2LP). With the Rendell/Carr Quintet.
  14. A happy birthday to Marcello !
  15. This 1/5th are just a bunch of layabout freeloaders who think they'll have an easy time over there !
  16. Absolutely ! That 'Hipnosis' is one of the best sounding Kings I have heard - and a super session too.
  17. What, 'Dance With Death'? Oops, I sometimes let my feelings of Hill's overratedness slip out... sorry! I wish I had some other King LPs to balance it out, but I keep getting outbid on Poppin'. No problem ! I have the King 'Dance With Death' and a few of the others ('Hypnosis', 'Sonic Boom', 'Tippin The Scales', the two Bobby Hutchersons ('Oblique'/'Inner Glow') and a couple of the Grant Greens). I'm a big fan re: the sound of this series and the cover art. Don't have the 'Poppin' but it's on the Mobley Mosaic set I think.
  18. Jazz-625 'Tribute to Charlie Parker' 1964, Shepherds Bush Empire, by the sound of it. McGhee kicks ass ! Walter Bishop Jr/Tommy Potter/Kenny Clarke.
  19. What, 'Dance With Death'?
  20. Nope - I've got the 'Parkertown' pressing The middle one (King) would be pretty rare I think. It would be a challenge even for Mr. Tanno ! Enjoyed side 1 of the 'Conn' and can recommend it without reservation.
  21. Nice one ! I have the original "Rainbow series" LP, but the cover looks so dull that I'm thinking of getting a copy of the Connoisseur LP, or even the CD, just because it would probably make me bring out this one more often. How's the sound on those Connoisseur LPs? Just spinning this one at this very moment. Nice ! The 'Patterns' is a 'Wally' pressing and this particular one came from Mr. Tanno I think so is in absolutely immaculate condition. I like the sleeve art on the 'Conn' too !
  22. Up with this thread. A fine performance of 'Napoli's Walls' at the 2004 Bath Festival can now be accessed via the 'other site.'
  23. I have to say that I'm glad that Mosaic Records isn't within car distance from me. If it was I'd now be doing a 'Tower Records'.
