  1. Yeah, I'd like to have this one, but $265 (so far!) for four CDs is a bit too much for me!
  2. I suspect the tap was leaking when they discovered them ..... Talk about mouldey figgs!...
  3. I listening to his new Concord CD, Blue Muse, for a review. Sounds pretty nice. And Euporia's issue last year of his 1961-62 Columbia sessions, Moten Swing!, is mighty fine. I think I've read that he's done almost 90 solo recordings!
  4. What's the MTO? I saw Sex Mob give an enjoyable performance a few months ago...
  5. "The Hidden Fortress" is another fun one. A warrior has to smuggle a princess through enemy lines accompanied by a pair of goofy sidekicks. (You can bet the George Lucas watched this one.)
  6. See if this link works.
  7. Some frightening instruments on these pages! I saw Lovano play his straight tenor. It was very strange looking, almost like a soprano on steroids.

  9. For Philly, besides the places mentioned earlier, take a look at NXNW.
  10. Mike, I think we're talking about a 1959 date for the Sonny Clark Trio date, no?
  11. Bruno Raberg – Ascensio (Orbis) – Allan Chase, Phil Grenadier John Patitucci – Imprint (Concord) – Chris Potter, Jack DeJohnette Miles Davis – In Person Friday Night at the Blackhawk Complete (Columbia/Legacy) John Surman – Westering Home William Parker Violin Trio – Scrapbook (Thirsty Ear) Roger Kellaway/Red Mitchell – Life's A Take (Concord) Jack Bruce – SomethinEls (CMP) Richie Cole – New York Afternoon (Muse) Zoot Sims/Al Cohn/Phil Woods – Jazz Alive! 12. If everyone who buys a Mosaic set decides to buy a duplicate copy as an sure-fire investment to sell later for profit, it won't happen...
  13. Karrin Allyson does two of Oscar Brown, Jr.'s songs, "Long As You're Livin'" and "Hum Drum Blues" on her very nice 2002 album, In Blue.
  14. I wonder if Hyena will try to continue with these?
  15. Wait a minute, I seem to have January 1959 as the date for the Sonny Clark. Didn't I read somewhere that the 1960 date was wrong? In any case, the CD layer on this one sounds great!
  16. The Monk reissues are now due out from Columbia/Legacy on 8/19. Did I mention that Joel Dorn's Hyena Records will soon be distrubiting the Theloinous issues?
  17. Now scheduled for October, the Columbia box has 68 studio tracks (small group & big band) and 22 live tracks.
  18. ... these folks have yet to FULLY enter the Internet age. Haven't they? http://db.cadencebuilding.com/
  19. I wish you hadn't written that - it made me look up the Carmen McRae cover. Ouch!
  20. Yes, it's good. You'll like it. Kuhn's always worked well with her and, of course, Harrell's a sensitive player.
  21. I haven't heard "Playful Intentions" yet, but have heard Trumpet Guy on a couple other ones lately: Raberg's "Ascensio" is indeed a nice CD. And I did a small review of Eric T. Johnson's "Herbie Nichols" CD.
  22. Hmm, a first-order relic. When does Elvis cross over from being a cult to a religion?
  23. Is this for real? or just wishful thinking? More than wishful thinking, but I don't know if they're still on tap. I suppose I could try an email to Mosaic and see if I get a response. Thanks! I've recently reorganized some of the links/pages to make it a little better structured (maybe) ==> jazzmatazz.home.att.net

  25. Well, that would stink. I don't see how estates are maximizing their income by refusing to alllow licensing!
