  1. Most digital broadcasts are in the UHF band. Therefore, with a set-top digital tuner (free from Uncle Sam), "rabbit ears" should be all you'll need. There will be less need for the extendable antennae from here out. I installed a gov'ment approved free digital STB for a friend of my Mom's and she got way more channels than before and every one came in perfectly. She was ecstatic.
  2. This is not a unique event at Blue Note. People seem to forget about the fiasco with Wayne Shorter's "The Soothsayer". They fixed that one after it had been out for years and never told anyone about it. I had to buy a copy every now & then until I got one with the fixed CD in it. Kevin
  3. Michael - Any chance this music was recorded? Any chance you might want to offer CD-Rs of this recording for sale? Other people are doing it and it seems to be a pretty good way to make a few bucks. I'd buy it.
  4. I finally got a chance to see this yesterday and while it was very enjoyable, the inconsistencies and incredible leaps of logic were tough to swallow. The whole sequence on the snow planet was just too contrived and too unbelievable - even for Star Trek. It's great that this movie will start us down a path to more movies because I'm a die hard Trekkie. Kevin
  5. I have had this on CD for many years and it's slowly become one of my favorite Dex dates. I really like Hampton's contributions on bone as well as by providing 3 of the tunes. I wish I got it for $8.99. Kevin
  6. Lon, believe it or not, my first street bike was a Honda 400F as well! They called it a "Supersport". The wildest thing about this similarity is that they only made a few of these bikes and they only made it for 3 years. Pretty funny. They're a bit of a collectible today. What is everyone wearing for riding gear out there? I have 3 jackets, two leather and one mesh. Surprisingly, I find myself grabbing the mesh jacket all the time. Even when it's cold, it's warmer that the leather. Unzip the liner and it's much cooler than the leather. I bought a Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 (they're up to 5.0 now). I paid only $100 last year. Considering what they're getting for leather jackets, a bargain. My bike crossed over 1,500 miles a few weekends ago and it's like a new bike again. It's even smoother than before. Quieted down too. I am really digging this bike.
  7. It's still goofed up. Should I change my time zone or is there a fix coming? Kevin
  8. I sent several E-mails to Horace's site admin and never heard a word back. It has been hijacked for several years. NoScript's Firefox add-on stopped some trojan virus from getting loaded the last time I visited there. In fact, if you visited there recently, I would recommend an anti-virus scan and anti-malware scan immediately.
  9. Too bad I got there before you and bought all the good stuff. I am lucky to have Jack's place close by. I'm sure as the weather gets better, I'll take a motorcycle ride down on a few Saturdays. Kevin
  10. I have this one. In my opinion, it's the best digital version out there and $15 is a great price, especially since it's sealed.
  11. There is more than one TOCJ catalog number for these titles. Maybe it would help to list the number? Kevin
  12. By comparison, Harley's shake a lot. No other bike company is using that shake as a selling point. As to the amount, it depends on the bike's year and model. The problems I had with the shake was that the rear-view mirrors were useless at highway speeds. The shake gives people fits on longer rides. There also the usual problem with all bikes of having parts staying where there supposed to be. Vibration is not a good thing in most cases. Personally, I hated the shake. I liked the ride and the seating position, but that wasn't enough to get me over the shake. Thank god I saw that random Victory commercial last year. They don't run commercials too often. I was all ready to buy a Kawasaki or Honda V twin, but I wanted to buy a US bike. I even put my name on the re-born Indian's mailing list. Then their price list came out. $30K! Big Dog? Cool looking but no way I'm riding a Mastiff for hours. And they are hot, hot, hot. I made the right choice for me and I can highly recommend it. I am really liking my Victory Kingpin. This weekend, I put almost 500 miles on it, driving the length of Massachusetts and back again. Yesterday for the ride home, my 71 year old mother hopped on the back. I hope I can ride 200 miles when I'm 71. She said it was a nice ride - the new Mustang helped for sure, but it is a very smooth rider. Kevin
  13. That reputation is well earned. The ones that I've sat on were as hard as a rock. If I wanted a hard seat, I would simply stick with my stock Vic seat - it's pretty stiff. Be warned that Corbin's up for sale and are rumored to be on the verge of bankruptcy. In the past few weeks, there have been several false alarms about them closing shop. They also have a reputation for truly atrocious customer service, so you better hope that you don't ever need them. Quite honestly Lon, if you hadn't already ordered a seat from them, I would recommend against it. People on line are complaining about them left & right. Their delivery time has gone through the roof. You should see if you can cancel the order. There are a lot of guys out there mod'ding seats and I would look into that if Mustang isn't for you. Spencer's Seat Mods are very inexpensive and are highly regarded. BTW, I bought my Mustang two-up seat used from eBay. I bought it for my wife, not me. I was more than happy enough with the stock Vic seat. She wanted a more comfy ride with a tall backrest. This Mustang seat has that. Kevin
  14. Here's my Dad on his 1951 Indian 80 cubic inch Chief. This is on display in the Springfield Museum in the Indian section. I hope to ride it someday. I just don't know if I can handle the left hand throttle, right hand spark advance, left foot clutch and right side stick shift. I miss ya Dad, Kevin
  15. What a farce. Seriously. This decision is a complete joke. Somewhere Walt Disney is laughing his ass off. In this case, it ain't Disney, it's The Beatles. Everyone knew this was coming when The Beatles approached public domain. Anyone who thought otherwise was kidding themselves. Their recordings generate millions of dollars. Millions of dollars get politicians attention.
  16. I am going on my first long ride on my new Victory Kingpin this weekend. I just put a Mustang seat on it today. I'm really loving this new bike. Smoooooth. Kevin
  17. When was the last time you ran disc clean up and defragmented your hardrive? Both of those things should be done every now & then. Easiest way: Put the cursor over the start button and press the right button - select "Explore" and click the left mouse button. In Windows Explorer, find your C: drive. Right mouse click that and click "Properties". Click the button labeled "Disk Cleanup". If you haven't done this or not done it in a while, it will take a long time. After cleanup, click the "Tools" tab in the properties window. You'll see a "Defragment now" button. This will also take a long time, no matter if you've done it recently or not. BTW, a good free program to clean up your PC is CCleaner. The best thing about it is the registry cleaner. It will clean out any unused registry keys. If you still have problems, the next step involves editing the registry to stop all the crap that's loading at start up. Try these easy things first. Kevin
  18. Deep used to go on about this date but I was never able to find it. He gave me the impression that it was well worth finding. Kevin
  19. Foster's Epic dates are in print on vinyl if you look. I've never picked them up because his style seems too one dimensional to listen to in a trio setting for a whole LP, never mind two whole LPs. Maybe I should pick one up just to see what he did? Kevin
  20. Jeremy Pelt's bringing his quintet into the Regattabar tonight for one show. Should be a good one. Jeremy always seems to play hard no matter when I've seen him. Kevin
  21. That makes sense, Claude. The sides are unaffected, but if you look at the vent-like part (bottom of photo), it looks like heat might have been coming out of those holes. Those holes look like they are for the speaker in hands-free mode. That is bizarre. Never seen anything like it. Generally, when the battery fries, the phone stops working. If it's working normally, it's likely that the battery did not fry. Maybe what happened is that it was transmitting at full power for too long. However, if that happened, I would think that the battery would die way before the phone "melted". I used to have a Motorola phone back in the AMPS (analog) Verizon days and it would get very hot if I used it in that mode for a long time. But the battery would die in about 15 minutes in full AMPS mode.
  22. The intro to "Saturday and Sunday" starts out with the Duh da da da daaa da duh duh for 15 seconds. Then the main part of the tune starts. At 10:14, after almost 4 seconds of rest, they repeat this sequence, and the tune runs out 15 seconds later. I assume this ending is what's been chopped off. Maybe a jazz faux pas, but I always called this repeated intro a "coda". Mea culpa. I agree that it's pretty easy to notice if listened to and I'm not excusing anyone from screwing up. But if they fix it, everyone should be happy eith that. Myself, I'm all about preventing something from happening again. So I'd mark up the master (which is what RVG used) to indicate that the first tune has large rests. Kevin
  23. Cuscuna knows about it. I believe he has Rudy re-doing it but I haven't confirmed it. In case anyone is reading about this mistake and has never heard "One Step beyond", you should know that there is a coda at the end of "Saturday and Sunday" and this coda starts after several seconds of silence. I imagine that anyone not familiar with this tune might hear that large gap and assume "end of song" and press "index" on the mastering station. It's happened twice now with this particular tune so it's not only RVG's problem. I guess they should make a note on the master tape to let future mastering engineers to look out for this.
  24. The reason "Motto Grosso Feio" is so scarce is that One Way Records wasn't supposed to even get that license. As I understand it, someone at Blue Note screwed up. Once their initial license ran out, Blue Note realized the mistake and wouldn't give them an extension. To make matters worse, Blue Note didn't see a market to reissue it themselves. FWIW, it's not may favorite Shorter date for Blue Note so I can understand why they haven't made it a priority reissue. I doubt it would fly off the shelves. Hell, when it was in print at One Way, it didn't sell well. If it did, One Way Records might still be in business.
  25. I was not in favor of these new reissues that went back to "LP order". The original CDs, issued in session order, sounded better to me and offered better value. As a Blue Note customer, you should complain about it to them. The complainers are who got it changed to "LP order" in the first place. From what I was told, these people also wanted NO bonus tracks either. Just what was on the LP - nothing more.
