  1. I'm a stone cold Teagarden fan and that's a fact Jack! I enjoy so many of his recordings that it's hard to choose a favorite, but in a lot of ways the Roulettes are great, the Verves are great (including the one not on cd yet) and yet I would say I react the strongest to his recordings (mainly with others) in the thirties.
  2. Got my second package today at last. . . Whew. Exactly one month and one day from the day of order! All these K2s. . .ah!
  3. Sad news.

    Miles Davis

I don't remember the sound being off on that. I also believe there is another one. . . I'd have to look through my collection, but I think I have/had two.

    Miles Davis

That was an amazing series of cds. . . I bought the Monk and Mingus ones when I could, and glad I did. I believe all these have appeared since in another guise . . . .

Jack, I understand what you meant, now, of course. Yes, the "Live in Europe" was rechanneled for stereo. UGH. It still made me so damned excited with the amazing performance by Tony Williams though! That was so inspiring. . . when I first heard it (sometime in the early seventies) it made me want to get a drumset!

Music is great. Not sure I'd say it sound better than really good remasterings of Live in Europe, but it sounds good, the recording of an FM broadcast I believe. Great music. Like Jack I bought this when it first came out and even found a second copy later. . . .Haven't seen a copy for sale at less than thirty dollars for a long time.
  8. Thanks for that quote, I remembered it a little differently. Yes, Betty, Jimi, Miles. . . a triangle of energy!
  9. Well he probably meant that as well, but Noel was no "hillbilly"--I'm pretty sure that particular reference was to the influence (strong, compositionally and vocally) of Dylan on Hendrix.
  10. Yes, very cool story (which I read elsewhere)* It must have been quite a trip to meet the man, and that way! *Pigpen Discussion Page
  11. I remember it as Miles really digging Jimi but slamming him for fooling around with that "hillbilly" shit with which I was pretty sure he meant Dylan. Anyway, sure Miles dug Jimi. But Miles almost always had to get in a big dig as well.

    Bebel Gilberto

I do think there's a bit of Suba in the Bebel discs. . . I think he produced a track here and there. I"d have to check. But you were being lied to regarding Berimbaum in my opinon; this stuff is NOT like that stuff. Not up to that level.
  13. So I kindof find it ironic that this was inspired/patterned (I'm guessing but it rings true for me) on "The Wind Cries Mary" which Jimi patterned off Dylan songs. . . . And Miles slammed Jimi for "that hillbilly shit." I love Filles De Kilamanjaro. It's like a little musical world of its own.

    Bebel Gilberto

I like her. . . I"ve the first two albums, and remix albums of the first two. NOT ESSENTIAL stuff by any means, and not like the classic Bossa Nova material, so purists need not apply. Not quite like that Suba material I shared with you, but on the way there. . . .
  15. Yes, it's a very useful little box. I use it as a preamp, and it does improve my digital playback considerably (and I was happy with the sound before from the Decware modified Sony SACD player I was using!) Took a while to break in and took some playing around with tubes but the time and effort pays off.
  16. I really dig J. C. Moses behind Bud Powell. FIRE!
  17. And now an RVG. Which I think sounds very good. I really like the Prestige material more and more as time goes by and more listening gets done. I wish there were more trio recordings by Monk of any and all vintage.
  18. I find it so interesting that more than once Jerry has called Pigpen the only one with talent in the band at first. And it's true that his role was more prominent early on and as the others "bloomed" they grabbed more time and attention and Pigpen's place diminished. We have what we have, what happened happened, but I also wish that Blue Ron had kept a more diverse repretoire as time went by. Jerry said that Ron really didn't like being the front man and yet he was such a monster entertainer and manipulator of audiences. Jerry said that Ron was at his best by himself with a guitar in a living room. . . .I actually believe that is a strong possibility from the recorded evidence; wish there were more recordings along those lines. What I really dig about the music that features Pigpen is how the band plays. . . . They are just so "on" most every time Pig is at the mike, and they seem to play differently: they have blues and r and b hats on and they seem to love it. Jerry's guitar is just so "hot" behind Ron in 1966 and 1967 especially, that big Guild is just stinging out blues lines to die for.
  19. It's K2.
  20. I say consider this: not a DAC but a buffer that makes your existing cd player sound so much better. . . I really enjoy mine a lot! http://www.decware.com/newsite/zbox.htm
  21. I think they're still dribbling out some Atlantic/Savoys every now and then. No, that second two cd set has not come out ("The First Savoy Sessions"?). I have all the vinyl of these other sessions and also a Savoy/Denon cd or so that I think includes some of the material (I love those Savoy/Denon jewelcase and lp facimile cds!) Here's hoping we'll see this two cd set someday.. . . I don't really know if it will or not.
  22. Nice work!
  23. Listening to "Three Blind Mice." No, I mean "Shakedown Street." Sometimes that guitar effect Jer uses is too much. . . in a good way!
  24. WORD!
  25. You should get the "complete Prestige recordings" by Mr Monk. K2 reissues of all his Prestige recordings including the full Bags Groove session. Keep the cd you have for the session with Rollins. Some of the truest stuff that Mr. Nessa has said. I love the Monk Prestige box set.
