  2. I watched last week's WestWorld, and I am watching "Let's Go Crazy" the Prince/Grammy special.
  3. Oh hell yeah, it's gets higher end-ier. The PS Audio equipment is not the ne plus ultra. Even the P10s are no longer PS Audio's top of the line, and their front end and amplification are arguably not the top of the heap. But man, that's a lot of speakers for that room!
  4. My father loves the Schubert by Uchida and plays the sonatas all the time.
  5. I agree that it's a damned good record. @Peter DonoloMy copy of the new cd arrived. There is no indication that I can find that this "Misty" is the track that was recorded for the movie. . . all that is mentioned about this track is that it was recorded June 22, 1971, one of the sessions that produced material for the album. It appears to be a trio only selection (percussionist on the album does not appear) and its duration is 2:47. Hope that helps identify it or eliminate it.

  7. People seem to be kvetching about it elsewhere but I really enjoyed it. Long wait for the final season I'm afraid.

  10. Finally finished listening to the June 1976 box set from the Grateful Dead. This set has me re-evaluating 1976 and had me sampling some other shows, but it wouldn't surprise me that if I listened to all that I have (and I have all the official releases) these shows might not turn out to be among the top shows. My favorite sequence of tracks I just re-listened to: “St. Stephen” “Not Fade Away” “Stella Blue” “Samson and Delilah” “Friend of the Devil” Beacon Theatre, NY, NY (6/15/76) There are killer mid-sections of "St. Stephen" and "Not Fade Away" that show that the whole band (especially Keith, who is making strong contributions) came to play and to recapture that seat-of-the-pants exploration in a new way. And there's such a languid "Stella Blue" that it's comfortably numbed with ghostly moments. The swamp funk groove of "Samson and Delilah" seems no little feat and a new groove for the band, and the country calypso of "Friend of the Devil" sells this story of the friend who hasn't yet shot the sheriff but might because he's being pursued. . . . Sound is really good on this set. GBPP (God Bless Plangent Process).

  12. Now on to Monday Michiru's "Soulception" . . . . A lovely, jazzy album from this kick-ass woman. Monday has her grasp on so many genres she is almost like a human octopus. Ed Motta appears here to duet as well, a big plus in my estimation as I love his voice. Monday's music and words are always relaxing and positive. I'm so glad that I found her through Jim Sangrey's encouragement.
  13. I keep revisiting this one of late in part because it keeps showing up on listening lists which nudges me but in large part because it's such a great listen. Over time what strikes me about this one is the precision of the playing. The bright grooves just keep rolling and everyone is rhythmically right there even when passionately preaching' in their solos. These players really seem to be enjoying playing together and there's so much "spirit" here. Joe Henderson "Page One" Blue Note/Analogue Productions SACD. This SACD sounds great, but I also enjoy the SHM-CD and the Platinum SHM-CD (mono) from Blue Note Japan/Universal. It's just a very well recorded RVG date in my opinion. The horns especially have a full, projected sound.
  14. I am sure you will really enjoy this set. Having all these consistently and excellently mastered is a big plus that benefits the appreciation of the music and may even inspire some new insights and ideas.
  15. I started the listening today off with this fantastic sounding SACD, Horace Silver "The Tokyo Blues" Blue Note/Analogue Productions. This is one of the best sounding SACDs in the series Followed by an Impulse SACD, "Salt and Pepper" Sonny Stitt and Paul Gonsalves, Analogue Productions SACD. I think Paul should have gotten top billing on this one, his tone alone is so outstanding, and his ideas pull me in. Now on to a less great sounding disc but a great performance, Cannonball Adderley Quintet, "Inside Straight" on OJC cd.

  17. Coleman Hawkins "Wrapped Tight" Impluse/Analogue Productions SACD I saw a hawk flying through the window, and walked over to a shelf and my eye landed on this one. Seems a great followup to the Holiday disc with excellent Ellis and Webster.
  18. Did my federal and state taxes and I'm trying to assuage the sting of writing two checks with some great music. Started with some lovely Dexter Gordon, the SACD of the Blue Note title "Dexter Calling" put out by Analogue Productions. And on to Billie Holiday "All or Nothing at All" the Verve sessions on Analogue Production SACD. These Verve titles done by Analogue Productions via Sterling Sound sound FANTASTIC.
  19. Thanks for the headsup, I did not know this was released. The Japanese 2 cd set of Monk's Black Lion material is excellent.
  20. I got and listened to my copy today. Quite nice, and very good sound as are all the recent reissues. A bit "loud" but good tonal balance and dynamic enough.

    I love these two volumes, and I've bought them each time they were reissued and I've kept the SHM-CD versions which I think sound best. I like the sound.
  24. I like the Japanese RVGs which sound pretty good. Not the best Messengers, but imo some good stuff.
