  1. I have my Blu-ray player feeding a DAC and then into my preamp. . . Dave Holland comes through very well, quite balanced sound.
  2. Mike, though I really enjoy "Remembering Weather Report," it does not directly emulate the sound or style of that band's Vitous period. It's mellower overall and what is similar is an approach to collective interplay.
  3. Victor, keep 'em coming and enjoy your special day!
  4. "Suits" from last night. I admit again I watch this mostly for the beautiful brunettes. . . Gina Torees, Meghan Markle. . . back again, Abigail Spencer.
  5. Many happy happy returns!
  6. Got my Van Cliburn box in today. Nice set!
  7. Yes, he did all nine. I'm a classical music neophyte but all my life I've heard Beethoven because he's my father's musical inspiration and I caught the bug. I love these piano transcriptions.
  8. Don't really know how to explain it other than the Japanese cd sounds "slower" to me, there's more body to the sound, which on some systems can sound better or "prettier" but to me the clarity of the new version wins out, and I don't think that it makes the bass and drums sound "thin" at all, just gives a clear picture of them without extra reverb reflections.
  9. The Liszt I play most often is only partly Liszt: the Beethoven Smyphonies transcribed for piano. Brilliant stuff. I have the Leslie Howard performances.
  10. I think reverb was added in the mastering of the Japanese cd. And it muddies things up for me, and makes bass and drums sound thicker, slower, maybe "pretiier," but not "prettier" to me on my system. The new one is a definite upgrade for me.
  11. There's no question Evans could play the blues. The blues is not the bedrock of his style as it is in the style of many other pianists we love. Every year that passes I appreciate Evans more and more. Putting on one of his albums can transport me to another dimension in the way that those of a handful of other artists can, there are select artists that can take me to their own musical universe.
  12. I agree. The small group sides and solo sides are hot as well. Great sound.
  13. I love Seasons 2-4 of Fringe! Today catching up on Castle, The Following (still not completely sure about this show) and a few episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker (I find that show fascinating).
  14. Not to my ears at all, on my system.
  15. It contains the 'fifties recordings.
  16. I have the Hungarian Rhapsodies in this set and really enjoy them.
  17. Interesting comment. Folks on the Miles list complained about the subpar sound as compared to the Japanese "1969 Miles". In my opinion the sound is improved. Reverb and mud removed.
  18. Wouldn't it be great if every time one comes out we think that? And it's possible with the right choices!

    Barney Wilen

Moshi Too is such a killer release! Some of this could be part of Miles early 'seventies repretoire. Others have that Wilen beauty in spades. Still others are captivating in other ways.
  20. A master.
  21. Many many happy returns!
  22. I think you're all tripping. I'll take Surrealistic Pillow.
  23. Well hopefully there may be more in time. It seems people are buying these, which is a good thing.
