  1. I can imagine. I'm soon going out there again, after making a really bad choice for a job at the end of last year. Not looking forward to the process.
  2. Thinking about how happy I am that a friend's first meeting with someone from an online dating service went fairly well. She wasn't his type, which is okay. At least he didn't feel insecure. Congratulations are in order re: the job offer. I can remember back to 1997 when I was last offered an exciting job offer. I felt on top of the world!
  3. I think your memory is faulty. Are you thinking of Brandon Burke?
  4. I'd rather have a beautiful stained glass window.
  5. Thanks Jazztrain. The Blue Note cd "Profoundly Blue" is a great source for this material. Should be a copy here or there.
  6. I've never seen covers to the Vox Records Minton recordings. . .they may have just been 78s in sleeves? If someone knows differently and if they can post images please do!
  7. Solo flight had a handful of covers US and international, but this is the one I saw first in my own life:
  8. I believe this is the cover of the first release of the Edmond Hall material: This might have been a Benny Goodman Sextet lp he had:
  9. Many many happy returns!
  10. One of the best tv shows that hardly ever was. Well filmed, really good cast, a bit ahead of it's time. The DVD set looks and sounds great. I couldn't stop watching it.
  11. If I am remembering correctly, I think it's just the sonics that are different between mono and stereo. But that's an "if."
  12. Thinking about truly individual, distinct jazz players who have both a unique sound and a fresh concept (or two, or three. . .) For example, I'm thinking of how distinctly individual Bill Evans, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, and Lester Young were. Just four examples. It's amazing to "realize" oneself this way. I don't have it in me, though there was a time (not now) I wished I did.
  13. I've enjoyed those that I have purchased from this series and the Keepnews; I agree that they do sound better, and I may even prefer this sort of "sound" to the DCC "sound". . . .
  14. There's a massive thread (maybe two) about these new centennial relesaes on the Hoffman forum. There is no mention there that speed has been altered on the new versions. I haven't bought the new two cd set yet, though I probably will this summer. My friend Dave, who is decidely NOT an audiophile, raves at how much better this new set sounds than the earliest two cd set which he has, and the one volume of the King of the Blues Singers he has. Surprises me that he hears that much difference.
  15. I've been thinking about ma'at. Interesting concept that I've neglected exploring in thought.
  16. Many many happy returns!
  17. It better sound good. Have about 85% of the material already. Should put them up for sale.
  18. Many many happy returns!
  19. Coffee mostly. I'm addicted to the coffee roasted here in Austin (and sold via the web) under the Ruta Maya brand (there's a coffee house here). It's coffee grown by a collective of organic farmers in Mexico. The medium roast is to die for; I make mine using a #2 Melita filter cup. And I add a teaspoonfull of whipping cream to the bottom of the (12 ounce) mug. I'm not sure I can comfortably leave the house in the morning without one. Generally I have only one mug a day. I do like a good English Breakfast tea, or Chai tea. If the Chai tea is good, it's one of my big afternoon drinks.
  20. Okay, your reservations are duly noted. Twice.
  21. I love trombone. Fuller and Moncur are not among my favorites.
