  1. The Armstrong and Astaire have been on yourmusic, I bought them, they're nice actually. I keep hoping hte Christy will show but it HASN'T! I've looked for a couple of weeks.
  2. Last year I made my wife happy and took her to an Idol CONCERT. Every show around us (Houston and Austin) sold out. There were people there in their sixties, fifties, forties, thirties, twenties, teens and pre-teens. I haven't seen such an enthusiastic and attentive audience since I saw Stevie Wonder in a Chicago stadium in the seventies. This is NOT just a TV phenomenum. And it's a serious cash cow that will graze a long time.
  3. Yea, forsooth the Moose speaketh true! Welcome! We've done this topic before on a thread. Many of the original members (Most, actually) did get here within a few months of the abolishment of the late Blue Note bulletin board.
  4. I'm afraid they may take this opportunity to put the material added to the DETS cds here. . . which would mean very little new material! Until we see a set list. . . I'm saving money by pretending to myself I'm morally indignant (and realistically broke).
  5. Phillip K. Dick Society Newsletter #2
  6. Hmmmm. . . music that comes from his body and soul. . . I can dig it.
  7. I haven't seen any copies for sale in a shop or online for a long time. . . . I did purchase nine from an acquaintance and resold them at cost to another here last year. Lucky and unusual break!
  8. Ruta Maya coffee, medium roast. Grown organically by a collective of Mexican farmers, roasted here in Austin. Excellent! This is how I greet the day when I can.
  9. You've got a long wait!
  10. Chris, I can certainly see things from your viewpoint. The truth of the matter as I see it is that the judges really don't matter much. Almost anyone would pick a similar batch of 100 finalists or so, and then whittle a similar batch to 24. And after that, no matter what the judges blather on about, it's the tv audience that votes and decides. . . believe it or not. (I can't believe a lot of their choices! Such as when they voted off Jennifer Hudson. . . who is slaying moviegoers now in "Dream Girls." I KNEW that woman was the shit!) The main appeal for me? My wife LOVES the show, when it gets down to the finalists. It's allowed her to grow an interest in music, and it opened the door for me to show her other musicians and singers. I showed her several versions of Summertime that I thought were far more intriguing than Catharine McPhee's for example, and she understood why I thought so and enjoyed the comparisons. Before AI, this would NEVER EVER have happened! I really get a kick out of Helen discovering a joy in music. . . . I really am grateful to Idol for that.
  11. Woody Herman. You don't think thirties Basie with Rushing qualifies?
  12. I preordered it and have been enjoying it. I've had the mono lp longer, stunningly remastered by Robert Shawn Dudley (it's an "RSD Edition") to cdr. I really have always liked this session and recommend it.
  13. Been watching Smallville Season 3 There are worse ways to waste time.

    Olatunji dies

    Ha! RIP Ola!
  15. I agree with you there. My wife and I don't need to see these people. We skip or wince our way through til the Hollywood episodes; I can't get her unglued from the set from that point on. I guess these painful and demeaning episodes are money in the bank for the producers and networks though.
  16. I love that Legacy box set! A fantastic set. . . soundwise. . .booklet wise. . . . Selection and programming wise. . . .Because it was not "complete" in any way Keepnews didn't mess it up! Well, because the RCA box sets are long out of print, I'd recommend the JSP boxset series out recently. They look great (I haven't purchased them, I have the material in King Jazz cds) and the music is just wonderful. They started with the Second volume. . . get that.
  17. My fear is that it's going to be a lot more than the Fargo that is duplicated. It could include other previously released Storyville issues, and material tacked on the volumes of DETS. It just feels like a wrong move for those who have been supporting the Ducal Storyville releases all this time. I really don't care a fig about Morganstern notes and photos at this point.
  18. So I have to rebuy Fargo and other things just to get some unreleased bits? Why is Storyville doing this to us? They never used to jack us about in this way!
  19. I just absolutely love the albums with strings. I'd recommend Lord of Lords, or World Galaxy.

    who's jane fielding?

Yes, Welcome! Thanks for the information and the sharing of memories!
  21. I think all those in the batch with Raney, Roberts. . . are jewel case.
  22. Okay, Larry, I'm the one who's dumb because I swore you were recommending the intended pronounciation as the "jazzopiators" . . . as in opium users/eaters . . . .I read your "OP" as in Oscar Peterson or Ron Howard.
  23. I dislike Proper. Setting aside the "legal to sell in the US" issue, they rarely include complete sessions which bugs me, and they don't sound that good in comparison with other issues of the same material. I avoid them.
  24. I get it. Hmmm. . . not sure that was intended, but maybe.
