There was a Japanese series AND an American series. That list includes American ones (and other later Savoy reissues). I didn't go through it thoroughly (no time, have to pack!) to see if it included all of them. I honestly think that in this series the 16 bit American and Japanese ones and the 20 bit Japanese lp facimile versions sound a bit better than the US 24 bit series.

Visions & Calif. Green on cd or lp
jazzbo replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Discography
Visions has been reissued by Blue Note Japan, many moons ago. Calif. Green? Not sure what that is. -
I've got almost every one. Not sure you can qualify them as of "this decade." They were really history by the turn of the century. None-the-less a series I jumped on when they first appeared. Bought quite a few as imports, then worked with my friend Dave, then Tower record buyer, to get the domestic batches as they were released. I think I really like the Donald Byrds, the Charlie Parkers, the Lateefs and the Coltrane-Hardman the best. Great sound on this series.

Yes, Paul, what Mark said!

The Mingus tribute is pretty good, IMO. My girl got a copy of one his more recent projects (it's pirate-themed and co-produced by Johnny Depp), Chanteys and Sea Songs. It's got the usual cast of characters (Wayne Horvitz, Bill Frisell), but--typically--a few weird-ass oddities (John C. Reilly singing some raunchy tune about peg-legged persons...). For my money, these tributes are a million times more interesting than the scores of remix projects and "straight" interpretations that regularly flood the tribute bins. The Mingus Wilmer was moved for me to the next level by the use of Harry Partch instruments. Just love the blend.

what nonsense to make this limited!! don't they want to sell alot of these?? or will there be an unlimited version afterwards. it doesn't say that... (yet)... jb Possibly they may put these out in jewel cases years later, they did the same with the seventies live Miles stuff such as "Live/Evil", "In Concert". . . digipaks were limited editions, took years to sell out, then they came out in jewel case editions.

I'm with Jack especially on Lulu! Also, almost all the Blue Note material I've come to see as fantastic start to finish; I'm with Chuck on loving Misterioso and I love many other performances there.

Yeah Swinger, it's a good series. . .gratuitous sex and all! Actually, I found a book that I couldn't resist and started it last night (while I felt like crap from maybe allergies maybe a bug): "1491 -- New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus" by Charles C. Mann. Wow. Really interesting book!

I'm pretty much with Guy (brownie) on the Interpretations/Live from Soundscape. I haven't heard the tribute lp, at one point this was to come out on cd (again?) but didn't but I confess to loving the Willmer Mingus tribute.

I decided to reread the John Varley "Gaea" trilogy, so I just finished "Titan." However I didn't intend to finish it so fast, and I'm not at home, so I started the other book that I brought as a backup, Jim Thompson's "The Criminal" (another rereading).

Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music
jazzbo replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
When they started carrying Candid, they started with just a few titles; each month, they add more. Now they have a large part of the catalog. Here's hoping they'll do the same with Storyville. I've just noticed that they have a lot more Storyville titles! It's interesting that I don't recall seeing these listed in the "New This Week" lists. Anyway, check out: Billy Strayhorn - Piano Passion: http://www.emusic.com/album/10985/10985109.html Louis Armstrong In Scandinavia Vol. 1: http://www.emusic.com/album/10985/10985147.html Duke Ellington - 1943 Carnegie Concert: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984546.html Ben Webster Live At Ronnie Scott 1964: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984954.html Thad Jones - Eclipse: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984502.html The Noble Art Of Teddy Wilson: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984606.html Duke Ellington - Togo Brava Suite: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984908.html Horace Parlan - Relaxin' With Horace: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984951.html Ben Webster plays Duke Ellington: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984535.html Stuff Smith Quartet - Swingin' Stuff: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984372.html Sahib Shihab - Sentiments: http://www.emusic.com/album/10984/10984815.html Clark Terry And His Orchestra feat. (I have most of these on cd, I've spent a lot of dollars on Storyville cds over the years, and lps too). -
Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music
jazzbo replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Having revisited my vinyl of most of them lately, and found them. . . victims of seventies partying. . . I downloaded all the Flora Purim Milestones. And I also was delighted to see that the "Artistry of Helen Merrill" was available, and downloaded that. Then I decided to get two Coleman Hawkins that I did not have on cd: Sirius, and On Broadway. That left me five tracks. . .so I went with Sonny Rollins "The Next Album." -
The Spanish collection is okay sound wise. I think the Decca cds sound better, so if you're not that happy with those. . . . I'm happy enough with those. The Chronogical Classics disc from this period sound nice as well. There was a series of cds on Ambassador devoted to these Decca years. . . and . . .well I bet they're great. I never did buy them. I wish I had. . . there's material in those that aren't on cd elsewhere, just little bits.

I REALLY like that Ada Moore on Debut/OJC. You might dig it Rolf.

Ruta Maya coffee medium roast, dripped via a #2 cone and filter, using Ozarka spring water and some half and half. How I start Houston mornings (at home I used Brita filtered tap water). -
Larry Young: Heaven on Earth/Contrasts
jazzbo replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Discography
No. Only cd appearances I'm aware of were on the Larry Young Mosaic. -
And the cities are not equipted with the trucks to take care of the roads either. Double whammy!

Yup. One of the few holiday albums I actually like.

Yes, Da Bastads at Dusty have been selling that second one. . . I grabbed it a few weeks ago. Nice! I'd never heard that Stockholm before I don't think. Some interesting moments (like Eric picking Danny's cymbal back up and putting it in place backwards, Danny ending the whole thing all of a sudden for what reason? I can't tell).

I've really fallen under June's spell the last few years. It's good to see that Capitol has been putting her releases out slowly still. . . though I agree with another here that says that the import Capitol EMI twofer that contains "The Intimate Miss Christy" sounds better than the new McMastered Capitol cd.
-
There appears to be a box set collecting them all at a reduced price. . . .
-
I miss Chris too. He's shown me on and off the board many kindnesses. It would be great to have him back.

Shawn and impossible probably have things to contribute to this thread. (My guess? Not that positive.)
