  1. The latest on the pending sale of EMI: NY Post
  2. I can't see some (but not all) of Hot Ptah's graphic links: specifically, I can't see posts 192, 210 and 223. I wonder why; could it be where they are linked from?
  3. Thanks for that link, medjuck. Fascinating stuff. Looks like they're all at 64 kbps, and you can hear it too - wish it were at a higher bit rate.
  4. Very sad. If capitalism can be said to have an artist, it would have been him. RIP.
  5. Still feel good about Universal entrusting their masters to the gov't?
  6. Frank Zappa, his groupies and me She was a strait-laced English typist. He was a sexually incontinent rock innovator. So why on earth did Pauline Butcher become Frank Zappa's secretary? The Guardian UK
  7. Very sad; RIP.
  8. That was implicit in sonnymax's "brought a smile to my face" comment.
  9. See this thread in the Mosaic forum - 5 (legit) Verve Mosaic boxes just popped up on eMusic: Organissimo
  10. I'll also post this in an mp3 thread, but it seems relevant in this forum: Tal Farlow - $37.50 Johnny Hodges - $37.50 Gerry Mulligan - $18.80 Buddy Rich - $26.30 Jazztet - $37.50
  11. As per the Mosaic booklet, "Note: These nine selections were initially scheduled to be issued as HODGES BY HODGES Verve V6-8391." So I guess a cover was never released. Oh well. Tracks are 11 - 19 in Marcello's post. Shorty Baker, Ray Nance (tp), Lawrence Brown, Booty Wood (tb), Johnny Hodges (as), Jimmy Hamilton (cl, ts), Jimmy Jones (p), Aaron Bell (b), Sam Woodyard (d). Nola Studios, NYC, September 8, 1960 (and maybe Sept 9). Arrangements by Mercer Ellington, Jimmy Hamilton, Gerald Wilson, and John Sanders.
  12. On the Mosaic "Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions 1956-61," one of the albums was "Hodges By Hodges." Can anyone furnish a link to a scan of the original cover? Much thanks in advance.
  13. Sugar Hill owned the Chess masters for awhile (I believe they sold them to Universal), and led to a resurgence for that label... I had their issue of Chuck Berry - The Great 28.
  14. "Bebop Story": 100 (!) CDs from Membran...currently available @ $90 an Amazon reseller... Amazon Track listing can be found here: Jazz500
